Murder in Bute Park guilty verdict

Glad they got a murder conviction, especially as they tried to get a conviction on the lesser charge.

Horrific crime, I hope they get the sentences they deserve.

Seeing a possible 12 year minimum is wrong.

The three of them kicked, stamped on and punched the victim for nearly 15 minutes yet somehow chose to plead not guilty to murder... then they all chose not to stand in the witness box to utter a word in their own defence. The prosecution barrister implied in his opening address that the female, who was 16 at the time, was the scummiest human among the defendants, which is remarkable as one of the others, Strickland, is a career thief, aggressive beggar and home burglar.

By going not guilty and wasting everyone's time running a trial the judge is free to hammer them to the maximum the law allows in his sentencing. The males are likely to get 32 to 35 years minimum, she'd be lucky to receive anything below 16 years minimum.

Hope tyhey get the same as that bloke a few days ago that killed his ex and kid - like with 40 years minimum - he could well die inside.

I saw him begging fairly regularly in that small park area between Argos and Central Market. Although I had no idea of his name or background. He was memorable because he always wore the same clothes.

A few hours ago I was joking about towels with TLG and feeling great. You can imagine how I feel now.

I was meant to see him last July. It didn't happen.

This post may sound like it's about me but it isn't. This is about Gary. I mentioned victims of ASB in a post recently and humanising those victims.

I don't understand the minds of the people who did this to him. It's horrific. It's ironic that Gary would have been able to and could have helped them. It's also so sad that he really needed someone to talk to.

It's bad enough reading it, adding the extra human level there makes it seem even more upsetting.

I have just seen an interview with his work mate Dr Maria Atkins who I know

She's a very experienced psychiatrist and said about him what you said , that he was a kind human being

May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in knowing you were helped by such a caring and kind person .

I'm really very sorry to hear your story, it was bad enough for anyone of us to read about this tragedy but it must be unbearable for you and your wife. I hope your condition has improved for you thanks to the support of this dedicated man, and I hope time will lessen the hurt this harrowing episode brings to you.

So sorry to read this.

Just watched this story on the news . It was utterly sickening .
There is no joy in revenge but I hope those evil people have a rough time in prison .
What they did to that poor man is unforgivable.

I didn't know the deceased but was left furious reading the court report each day.

None of them will be set free unless a parole board adjudge it's safe to release them into the community on life licence for which they can be recalled at any time. For them to have a sniff of freedom they will have to behave impeccably for donkey's years. The very first thing they need to do is admit their guilt because unless they do they will be unable to attend courses tailored to address their behaviour.

They will need to learn how to survive in an environment littered with people just like them: fellow predators who prey on those they deem weaker than themselves.

I wonder how completely f*cked up a person has to be to do such a thing and laugh in the dock after being found guilty looking at at life behind bars…is their life just so sh*t that a life doing nothing in jail but getting food and lodge is better?

After hearing/reading daily reports as they case progressed I don't understand why it took the jury four hours to reach their verdict.

I agree with you, it should have taken them 20 minutes tops to arrive at those verdicts.

They ran a half-baked cut-throat defence through their barristers' closing speeches with each claiming the other two meted out a violent beating while they reluctantly played a gentler, more passive role as they were fearful the other two would turn on them if they hadn't. It may have had some traction with the girl's defence but for the audio evidence which revealed she was the most enthusiastic of the three and of a witness who described her as evil and sadistic.

Seems the girl was from my village. But I have no idea or knowledge of her or her family.

I’ve never agreed with capital punishment, but as i grow older, and continually witness the wicked and depraved things that humans can do to each other, i am wavering.
A 3 person15 minute sustained attack, on a helpless innocent man is about as bad as it can get.

Often people who do extreme things, especially extremely bad things have had extreme lives themselves. That would at least help to explain it, but obviously not excuse it - if shes had a perfectly happy and normal upbringing then that would be very disturbing for me, with kids who will be approaching that age in a few years time.

Same here with two daughters 13 and 17 to see the pictures of her, just looks like a normal teenager. Not what I was expecting tbh.
