Prince William inherits £1bn estate

The royals are in control of a lot of land.
Will have to remember that the next time someone posts about how we're a small island, very dense population and totally full.
How much impact do one thousand immigrant families have compared to this family?

Re: Prince William inherits £1bn estate
I wonder how much inheritance tax they will pay on the queen's properties

Zero inheritance tax applies when property passes from sovereign to sovereign.

To be fair though, the Royals are probably struggling to pay all their energy bills, just like the rest of us.

Luckily they take our taxes to cover the costs. I’d be devastated to hear they couldn’t heat their 12 mansions and 7 castles.

Probably all need renovating..at a cost of 20 billion

Be interesting to see what Harry and Megs get?
Also if and how they are taxed on it.

Why would they be taxed on it?

I imagine if there's intelligent life on another planet and they could look down on all this they'd question our ability to think rationally. I can hear them saying to us "shake yourselves and rid yourself of this pestilence"

This is an eye opener on all of the wealth, privileges and power the royal family still has https://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Do-You...dp/B07RN38QC5/

Because if they're no longer members of the Royal family, and are just regular citizens like the rest of us, then the same rules should apply to them as us.

If they did, then Andrew wouldn't have been able to receive a £12m gift off his mother without it being subject to tax either.

John Lennon was right about the working class
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still ****ing peasants as far as I can see

Re: Prince William inherits £1bn estate
Charles donated some of the revenue of the estate to the taxman voluntarily. I would imagine this will continue under William.

Is voluntarily donating tax the same as what we all have to do?
-
Re: Prince William inherits £1bn estate
In fairness, that poor family had to open up their house to the public in order to pay a percentage towards the damage caused by the fire at Windsor Castle. Poor queenie hiding in the downstairs toilet until the rabble funked off home with their Autographwd corgi pics. I bet none of you lot would be prepared to do that.

Make me exempt from income tax and I'll happily donate 5% of my salary to the taxman.

Remember that as part of the deal you'd be required to sit on your arse for most of the year apart from when you have to attend some event at which you'll be surrounded by gushing cretins.

Intelligent life on this planet should recognise the institution of British royalty to be anachronistic, the epitome of privelege and the establishment and a load of patronising tosh. However, she's still one of us, guvnor.............

I believe Tax is paid on the value of the estate and not by recipients.

Re: Prince William inherits £1bn estate
Before you lot organise a lynch mob for the remaining royal family, perhaps you should just bear in mind that in 2018 (and the figures haven't changed much since), British Royalty cost the taxpayer £165m to run but they brought in £595m (tourism, trade, merchandise etc) for the treasury/economy. They are also all taxpayers on any earned income, so that puts the theory that they are a bunch of tax avoiders to bed. Bearing in mind that quite of the people who post on here regularly often openly admit that they do all they can to avoid paying tax, it is a tad hypocritical anyway to accuse other people of doing the same thing. If it was a member of your family that had just died at 96, after over 70 years of public service, I dare say that you wouldn't think it was a good idea to immediately go around insulting him/her and casting doubts about their suitability to be a member of society. Show a bit more respect please.

Without the royal family the tourism money would most probably increase. Tourists don’t meet any of the royals, they come to see the sights and if the doors of (ex) royal residences were thrown open the entrance fees would dwarf anything coming in now.
Do you spring to the defence of anything else? I knew the City could do know wrong but..........:hehe:

What have the French done with the Palace of Versailles? Must be hard to fund the upkeep with 0 income from tourists.
Never mind, apparently the PoV gets 10million visitors annually.

Regardless of the finances (and I am highly dubious about the figures you quoted), the Royal Family are up there with hereditary peers, the honours sytem, private schools, the dominance of Eton and the ongoing class system we still have in the UK. It's about privelege and the bed one is born in. It determines who is Head of State and who is Head of the Church of England. We are not citizens but subjects. It is ludicrous medieval tosh and depends on members of the public eternally tugging their forlocks, bowing and curtseying to what are akin to demi-gods who live in a pletora of their ivory towers. People reacting as if royalty are close relatives is rather amusing.

Mickey Mouse brings in millions of Euros to Eurodisney but they haven't made him Head of State for some reason or other.

Knew you’d bat dml1954’s feeble defence right back at him, and as usual, you’ve done it with bells on old fruit.
I can sleep peacefully tonight 👍
