While our eyes are on dingy crisis Rishi slips bill through the back door
Whilst all eyes are on today’s headline news story of how Rishi and Seulla plan on curbing the cross channel dingy migration crisis a bill was passed this evening via the back door!!
Sky news are reporting that the new bill will entitle single GAY men who are actively seeking a partner to claim this new government benefit via the DWP youGov website
If anyone on here qualifies it’s called Knobseeker’s Allowance
It come into force from the first of April 2023

Dunno about the opening post, but after “take back control” and “get Brexit done”,we have the latest three word slogan from the Tories. A search of “stop the boats” on Twitter will bring up no end of them parroting their latest slogan just in time for the May elections.

Did you come across any mention of a UN army?

That isn't the case here. People are 'fleeing' to (not from) this country and as has been widely discussed, the system is being abused and it's costing us a lot to mitigate for.
Linekers comparison is preposterous and offensive to victims of fascism.

All I'm saying is that lectern with the national flag in shot for the cameras conjures up a certain image.

Only if all you think about is the Nazis! It's like saying anyone in a grey suit or with brylcremed jet black hair is reminiscent of Hitler.
I don't entirely think the flags in the background are necessary but it's a modern, news cycle thing where images are pumped around the world and every country does it for pretty much every press conference..

Re: While our eyes are on dingy crisis Rishi slips bill through the back door
As you all know, I'm not someone who wades into the inevitable Punch and Judy, left v right debates on here (and I'm more a person of the middle ground).
However, the cost of processing, housing and supporting what must be a huge number of the contingent of arrivals who are not true refugees must be astronomical and a huge financial and logistical burden on local and national authorities.
When I lived in London I had personal experience of what were economic migrants posing as refugees and who were used to playing the system after illegally entering the country - and they had a social network of friends and relatives doing the same thing.
I have every sympathy for genuine refugees (and I'm volunteer with a Ukrainian support group at present) but the problem is a serious one, in my opinion.
I was appalled to hear about the Rwandan scheme but last night heard that the Australians did something similar which has supposedly cured the problem, by and large.
There should be, of course, adequate facility outside the UK for refugees to apply for entry but the current situation is surely not tenable. What real options are there in the short term to solve what is a real problem?

I have to agree. I think the current government is despicable but the comparison is ludicrous.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...da-deportation
I still remember the immigration targets set by Cameron and May a decade and more ago. Those targets are never mentioned these days because they never came close to being met. I’m not denying that there is no simple solution to this, but we’ve got people in power saying we’ve got to do something about this, it’s horrible, but it’s got horrible entirely on their watch. It seems now that they’re reduced to a simplistic, slogan based approach using dubious imagery - the link shows that we’ve had plenty of talk about this matter in the past thirteen years, but little or no successful action.

The cornerstone of our legal system is its better to let 10 guilty men go free than punish one innocent man. Lets just dispense with our hard fought civil liberties because those involved have brown skin.
The Tories are utterly despicable and anyone who advocates this policy is bereft of any kind of understanding regarding our unwritten constitution. The rights of the innocent must be protected.

Despicable for trying to stop the abuse of our asylum system? Get real. The fact you play the race card weakens your argument massively, especially when the Prime Minister and Home Secretary have brown skin themselves.
Why don't you look less at skin colour and more at what is actually happening?

It wouldn't be the first time a Conservative government has used inflammatory language about immigration.
Didn't David Cameron once refer to a group of migrants as a "swarm"?

Immigration and asylum aren't the same thing

you've missed the point made by a country mile.

That's because they are abusing the asylum system.
If you want to talk about immigration, the dastardly Tories took that to record levels last year.
They also changed the law so that those from an overwhelmingly white part of the world (EU) are not prioritised over those from an overwhelmingly non-white part (the rest of the world).
Accusations of racism and Nazi like behaviour is preposterous and doesn't stack up, and you know it!

The policy is the antithesis of what our legal system stands for. Lets just dispense with innocent until proven guilty and assume everyone is guilty by default.
You can only begin to imagine how shocked I am to find our you're an advocate of this.

Can we try to focus on what we were discussing for a moment without adding layers of goalpost moving?
If this government are going to refer to asylum seekers as "illegal migrants" then *they* have conflated immigration & asylum - not me.
Agree or disagree?

Calling you out for saying something ridiculous and untrue is not the same as thinking the government can do no wrong.
Just like if you posted that this morning it is minus 5000 Celsius and the snow is 50ft deep, and someone said it wasnt, it doesn't mean they are arguing it is in fact 50 Celsius and baking hot outside.

Disagree. The point being that economic migrants are abusing the asylum system.
You can argue whether that's true or not but it's not mixing the issues, it's more a case of reaffirming that the two issues shouldn't be mixed.

the lowest possible temperate is 0K, with is -273.15C. I have more chance in believing it is indeed -5000C than believing this government or its acolytes have any kind of compassion for their fellow man.

I'm not sure how you can type with a straight face that referring to asylum seekers as "illegal migrants" is not mixing the issues but here we are.
I can see that we're not going to agree on this no matter how much back and forth we have.

I'm not someone who mentions skin colour regarding such matters so I take it that your reply is not aimed at me personally.

People who are right wing and you are right wing Mr Wales ....love suggesting that the nazis ......were in fact socialists ......and you do that because way back then these twats were appealing to nationalism and called themselves national socialists
It's an attempt to label socialism as fascism when they were fascists
