Song for Next Season !!
I know everyone tries to create a new song now and then, however i thought I would have a go.
I know some hate the idea but I think this is ok? (I know my opinion!!)
My boy hadn't heard the song before (too young) but he thought it was alright, escpecially the chorus.
The song is "Those Were The Days" by Mary Hopkin. (First woman signed up by Paul McCartney to the Apple Label)
"Ok yes i know she is from Pontardawe"
I will put a link on here to the actual song first so you can "get the tune" especially if you haven't heard it before, then add the lyrics i put together after.
I'm not sure about Verse 4 (Ramsey) which i'm working on.
Sing it to yourself and see what you think :)
Tell me if it's shit as i'm past the age of giving a Fcuk :)

Re: Song for Next Season !!
Lyrics to "Those Were The Days"
Those were the days (Cardiff City)
Once upon a time there was the Canton,
Where we used to have a drink or two
Remember how we took the cup from England
Think of all the great games we would do
(Chorus)
Those were the days, my friend,
Back In the old Grange End,
We'd cheer and sing, forever and a day.
We'd live the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose,
We had Scott Young and sure to have our way.
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da
Then the City years went rushing by us
We lost our Peter Whittingham on the way
If by chance I'd see him in the Canton
We'd smile at one another and we'd say
Chorus
Those were the days, my friend,
Back In the old Grange End,
We'd cheer and sing, forever and a day.
We'd live the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose,
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
Just tonight I stood before the Canton
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
In the glass I saw a strange reflection
Was that the Cardiff City of my dreams
Chorus
Those were the days, my friend,
Back In the old Grange End,
We'd cheer and sing, forever and a day.
We'd live the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose,
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
Through the door came back the bluebird Ramsey
We saw his face and we would sing his name
For the legend he is older and much wiser
But in his heart the dreams are still the same
(Chorus)
Those were the days, my friend,
Back In the old Grange End,
We'd cheer and sing, forever and a day.
We'd live the life we choose,
We'd fight and never lose,
Those were the days
Oh, yes, those were the days
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
La-la-la-da-da-da
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la

Our lot might manage the la-la bit, otherwise no chance.

Argh...ok maybe that's where i got my inspiration :-)

Re: Song for Next Season !!
It’s about 4 verses too long unfortunately. Our repertoire is pretty dire.
Your best bet is singing it at away games and hoping it catches on. Although I’d recommend an abridged version.

We had joy we had fun , we had Swansea on the run
But the joy didn't last because Swansea ran too fast
Ironically written by Terry Jacks

Hmm... I might be wrong on this, but I seem to recall this in the mid-seventies, however, we were singing "Swindon" - not Swansea? (which would go to show that Swansea weren't even on the radar back then).

I am just like you... boo to a goose.
I always remember whenever the opposition scored, there was always a moment of silence where what had happened began to sink-in.
Then hearing the opposing (albeit few) fans celebrating, looking over to them, really confirmed what had just happened.
Then looking at our players with slumped shoulders, and hearing our fans chanting, "you're gonna get your...". This always seemed to change the players body language, from the end of the world, to "come on, let's get stuck in".
Or maybe I'm getting old and nostalgic for a simpler time :hehe:

Funnily enough, in the last game when their player was down injured, for ages, in the last minute of injury, injury, added-injury-time. I turned around to my Grandson and said "our fans are so polite these days". Then said opposition player was eventually stretchered-off to polite applause.
Before anyone judges me, I will say things have progressed for the better, but "older folk" amongst us will know what our fans would have been chanting.

In my youth, if an opposition player went down for a longish time, we'd chant the count one to ten, then the 'death march' tune.
Somrtimes we'd chant "let him die, let him die"
Fans (and authorities) are too soft these days :old:

Re: Song for Next Season !!
The "let him die" chant came to mind when I spoke to my Grandson.

I used to like the ‘boxing’ count followed by the funeral march as well.

It was simply counting out loud 1 - 10. like when a boxer has been knocked down.
There's so much diving these days, we'd be out of breath before half-time.

"Let him die" definitely still gets sung by pockets, seems a bit silly though, he's only playing for the other team in a football match
