Sir Keir Starmer sacked her for sharing an article containing an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory (as did Jezza Corbyn and others in Labour). She responded by saying she had not meant to endorse all aspects of the article.

Don't know about the specifics but I actually always thought she came across fairly well and seemed a nice person, unlike many on the left (and right) which often seem very unpleasant. She comes across as nicer than Angela Rayner for example who seems a right arsehole to me

Was it really an antisemitic conspiracy theory? The Maxine Peake interview in the Independent that Long-Bailey retweeted referred to US police forces being trained in Israel and/or by the Israeli military - specifically around restraint techniques - based on their practice on the West Bank. That was true.

The Independent, Peake and Long-Bailey all retracted the specific allegation that kneeling on the neck (as with George Floyd) was promoted as part of the training. But sections of the Israeli media (and Israeli human rights organisations) did claim that - and never retracted.

Starmer wanted any excuse to kick her out of the shadow cabinet. She gave him that excuse.

More of a problem for her reputation was her history as a corporate lawyer working on PFI deals!

There’s nothing worse than people of colour trying to better themselves by playing to the racist gallery. The very people who have no time for them. They all have something else in common, all loaded and out for themselves.

This is all massively regressive. Why are we endlessly saying that our skin colours is the most important thing?

What are her policies? Why not state the fact she has won and been elected? Why tie it to something she has no control over?

I'm glad she was elected. Her skin colour is part of her history but has zero bearing over who governs our schools, hospitals, roads, economies etc
