And another thing which bloody annoys me!

Why do modern day commentators insist on putting the name of the sport they are watching into what they’re saying as in “they are making a change aimed at winning the football match”? Is there any person in the world who would start watching a sport on Tv, get really into what they were watching and then an hour later think what exactly was I watching, I wish they’d have told me?

I’ve just heard that Justin Rose played a great round of golf at the Open, what other sport would former US Open winner Justin Rose play a round of?

Your example could cover the whole commentary really. "It's a Goal" no shit Sherlock! I understand that if a person has difficulty with their vision then it may not apply.

Managers do it as well. "The football club" is always used in interviews.

Last time I was at the airport with my dad he moaned until we got off the plane, I nip in the pub on a Sunday to see my uncle and the older fellas and they sit there with faces like slapped arses, sometimes not a word said for what feels like minutes at a time. Theres got to be more to life? What kickstarts it?

On the flip side TOBW I’m not a fan of female commentators but Laura Davies is exceptionally good. Her reading of a lie, or shot or outcome is very accurate

I have a dear friend who absolutely rails against the tv at times: Shopping channels, sport, documentaries, comedy…
I suggested he turns it off for a few weeks and he developed such a gaunt, lost, and listless demeanour that I advised him to turn it back on and knock himself out with the vitriol.

I was never a big fan of golf in the first place, but I stopped watching it altogether a few years ago due to the American commentators employed by British TV companies using the above phrase on a regular basis.

As regards ‘football matches’, I quite like Paul Merson but get seriously irritated by his frequent use of that particular term.

Nice one, TOBW. You’ve inspired me. There’s something I’ve been meaning to get off my chest for a while now in relation to the way in which a fair percentage of people post on this board. I’ll do so soon.

Minutes in the legs/minutes in the tank. Can you get minutes in a tank? In the player files do they have drawings of legs and they colour them in during pre-season like a Blue Peter fundraiser? How many minutes are in your legs?

My Interpretation of what Bob was saying is that the commentators are stating the obvious by telling us it's a football match. A fair proportion of what they tell us during a game is stating the obvious in my opinion.👍
