Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
You’d have been hard pressed to find a worse tie for us.

Home, quite attractive.

Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
Is an away draw against a non-Championship side too much to ask for?
-
Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
Decent enough draw. We may get a crowd near 10k, and the result will not be critical.
-
Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
We are playing Swansea away on Sun 25th and Middlesbrough at home at 12:30pm on Saturday 31st.
So game will have to be on the Wednesday.
-
Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
Decent draw , home , let the speedy youngsters have a good go at them . Impressed on Tuesday against Rovers.

Swansea. They would do a doube on us in the space of 4 days and then the first ever trebe later in the season.

Didn't we play Southampton in the league cup sometime in the mid 90s. I'm sure I watched it, but not 100 percent

1995. They beat us 3-0. Matt Le Tissier scored twice.

I was there. Southampton had a good away following. That was the game immediately after the media were saying Le Tissier was eligible to play for Wales.

Le Tiss absolutely mullered us that night, he was on a different planet.
I'm probably wrong but didn't we give him a standing ovation when he was subbed?

Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
Wasn’t it two legs and we took the lead at The Dell, Ian Rogerson? Got beat eventually though.

Might be the last time they won here.

Pretty sure they beat City at the CCS during the first Premier League season.

He's still on another planet, just a non-footballing one

3-0 on Boxing Day I believe
Possibly Malky's last game

Yes. It's their only league win in Cardiff since 1965. They drew their next league outing in 1974 and, since then, have lost 9 out of 10 league meetings in Cardiff. It's quite an extraordinary run of form.
Their last win in Cardiff was in the league cup 29 years ago, when Kenny Hibbett was in charge of us. That was 3-0 as well.

Definitely Malky's last game. 2 days later we drew 2-2 at home to Sunderland with David Kerslake in charge, throwing a 2-0 lead away and the equaliser was in injury time if I remember correctly.

so we either beat them, or lose 3-0 at home. I know which one my money's on

I love your positivity .
Even if we won all those games , we will lose eventually.

Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
Has anybody ever seen this Carabao stuff being sold anywhere? I hear it doesn't actually exist and is just a money laundering operation by foreign criminals.

They're a Thai energy drinks company.
Feck knows why they're sponsoring over here.

Asian Premier League 'fan' base is huge.
Their sponsorship helps to sell incredible quantities of energy drinks, and now beers apparently.
Cheaper option than sponsoring the FA Cup?
Longest running sponsor of the 'League' cup since 2017 ... just signed up for another 3 years.

Re: CARDIFF V SOUTHAMPTON. Carabao Cup Rd 2
I have seen it for sale in the UK, I don't remember where though, possibly in London.
I didn't buy it as all those energy drinks are revolting.

They did. It was my first game at the CCS and the only Premier League game I've ever been to. 0-3 after about 25 minutes.

I’ve just had a look at the details. It was Malky Mackay’s last game. He was sacked the following day. Southampton’s goals came from Jay Rodriguez (2) and Rickie Lambert. The Saints side included two young defenders named Luke Shaw and Callum Chambers.

Same reason lots of teams are sponsored by Asian online bookies and casinos.
Asian people watch a lot of UK football.
In fact gambling adverts are not allowed in
some Asian countries so it’s a way of getting around that and getting seen on tv there.
