Lots to take from that. Feels he's the man to bring the youngsters on and you can see he's a confident chap. If he's got the dressing room and they all buy in to what he is trying to do then who knows. There was also alot of "reading between the lines stuff " that makes me think he wasn't a fan of what Bulut was doing, more than one reference to "going in a different direction".

It’s a very low bar isn’t it? A kid of 5 could have brought an improvement.

He’s very self centred and it’s a bit desperate him almost begging for the job. Hope he gets 3 points on Sunday and we send him on his way after that

I am impressed by the way Riza has behaved and spoken so far.

He hasn’t got much going for him when it comes to experience and achievements, but he is playing his weak hand pretty well.

He’s a bit rough and ready, but I like the way he has talked about players - the old hands and the youngsters, and about changes to style and approach from Bulut’s time.

He also has a choice about how to respond to the press questions about whether he wants or expects the job. He has decided to show ambition and confidence and put his name firmly in the hat (even if Dalman and Tan don’t have a hat!)

I don’t want him as manager - there are better options. But he gives me much more confidence than I felt with Morison or Hudson. His arrogance is controlled and he doesn’t look like a rabbit in the headlights.

He's been coaching for the last 10 years, including with England U16 and U17 teams. Yes this is an opportunity for a much bigger job, but at least he's done the ground work, this isn't like a former player with no coaching experience getting the gig.

I get that and you could argue everyone has to start somewhere and Steve Cooper would be a good example of someone who’s made that transition from coaching without league managerial experience to being a successful manager

I just don’t think this is the right time for a novice manager for us

I’d be more than happy to be proved totally wrong if he gets the gig and is a success

Wasn't Swansea Graham Potter's first senior appointment after coaching at England age group Level and being an assistant first. I could be making that up of course but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. I know I'm right about one thing though, he seems to have the trust and respect of the players though which is probably the most important aspect of him securing the job.

Can we really say for sure at this early stage, that he has "the trust and respect of the players"?
I mean, who really knows, other than the players themselves?

The players were always going to play their absolute best and get together with whichever temporary Manager was selected, say what they thought had gone wrong and together work out a way forward.

I would say it's more a reflection on what Bulut was doing wrong rather than what Riza has done to put things right.

He is in no way qualified to take the job, maybe one day.

Thanks for the good job you have done Riza, but we need a Manager with more experience and we need to judge a track record of how they have done over a few years at least.

no, Potter was doing remarkable things with Ostersunds in Sweden before he went to Swansea, he's never been part of the England age group setup as far as I now. You're probably thinking of Cooper

I can understand that viewpoint, but I don't entirely agree.

Early days yet, but I would say that there's a lot more behind our improvement under Riza than the players trying harder.

We've been pressing harder up front, hitting the forwards quicker, counterattacking. All things we seldom did under Bulut.
Also consider the players we've used. Bulut's first teams this season were practically all in their late 20s and up, against Bristol the Likes of Colwill, Tanner, Bagan, Robertson were our best players.
Our midfield has been looking to get the ball forward, our defence is starting to look a bit more robust and we now have an attack that at least you can understand how we are trying to score.

Surely if we bring in an "experienced" manager, aren't these the kind of thinks we would want them to start to implement.
We are far from the finished article under Riza, but at least we are going in the right direction.

There are no guarantees with an experienced manager - if Tan could open is cheque book and get a manager that guaranteed a playoff spot I have no doubt he would, but it doesn't work like that.

Totally agree. As fans we have no idea who would be a sucess here as manager - it's daft to suggest otherwise. We also have no idea how good Riza is or could be. As you say if he or anyone gets results on the pitch they it makes sense to stick with it - particularly given where we are in the table.

I think it's a natural reaction to look for experience when we're in our current predicament, but if Riza can keep the team improving and winning matches it's hard to make an argument against him, other than that Tan and co do have a track record of promoting coaches from within who proved not up to it.
Maybe an extended trial period if we play well and win on Sunday?

It always happens with us, the coach/Manager comes in players lift for a bit, the coach gets the job, then they fade back to rubbish, I hope they don't make the same mistake again, this guy is not a Manager or regarded as a top coach even, it's great the players improved, but I think Purse or Ramasut would have had the same effect.

For that reason, I don't think he'll get it but time will tell though I guess.

So, in your view what should a manager coming into this job have on his CV. How do you know this guy is not a good coach or are you just guessing to fit your opinion. Neil Harris regarded us as a step up and was experienced at this level so was Mick McCarthy. Most of the managers out of work at the moment are there because they failed somewhere.

As far as I can make out, Riza has had three senior jobs at EFL clubs:

Assistant manager at Orient - the manager he worked for was sacked.

First team coach at Watford - the manager he worked for was sacked (and so was he).

First team coach at Cardiff - the manager he worked for was sacked.

Can you see a pattern?

This guy may be a reasonable coach and he might develop into a decent manager in his own right, but managing a mid-ranking Championship club looks like something of a career leap to me right now considering his CV.

I get that but as his own man he is now able to implement his own way and not ask a boss if it's okay. At the moment with the players we've got I can't see any other manager coming in and making changes any different to what he's doing at the moment. Time will tell I suppose.

Listening to how quickly he tried to distance himself from bulut and looking back to his comments at Watford and for me the pattern is he is someone so focused on being a number 1 he is the last person you would want in your coaching set up as he's just after your job!

I’ve said before he seems to be his own biggest fan.

For me, it’s symptomatic of what the club has become under Tan’s stewardship that there are those among us who seriously seem to believe this fella has what it takes to manage Cardiff City.

Maybe he’ll surprise us. Who knows? But if Omer Riza really is a serious contender for the job, it speaks volumes.

You can't rule him out if we get something at Bristol. We won't be bringing in any new players for at least 3 months. so it's really down to someone who can get the best from the current squad..

It's not a job that just requires tweaking the starting eleven. It's not a job that Cardiff City can afford to give to a person who was part of the coaching team that got us into this mess in the first place. I can't believe people are seriously considering him. We don't have time to mess about.

This guy would be responsible for a Transfer window in a few months. He doesn't have the experience and status in the game. It's so naive to think that a guy who scraped a scrappy 3 points on Tuesday is already being touted as an option. In fact, it's not just naive, it's barking.

This isn't one they can take a chance on again. Not with 4 points and -15 GD. It would be madness. Both sides missed decent chances on Tuesday in open play. We won't survive if we can only score from occasional set pieces. Not after this start.

As it stands this is the season we're going down. I don't gamble. Riza is a massive gamble. It's too big a risk. There will always be risks but you have to at least minimise those risks. Appointing Riza immediately increases them and there's no shake up.

Bulut and all the team (playing and non-playing staff) got us into this mess. It's going to need an experienced person to give us a fighting chance. Outside of football he and several players would have been 'let go' by now.

It's apparent to me anyway that any manager has a limited input to transfers as seeing the way Bulut treated some of ours. (Robinson,Turnbull come to mind.) Also, I'm not making a case for Rizza but was a bit bemused by some of the posters on here giving judgement on a candidates suitability based on their own guesswork.

If we ain't going to be signing anyone for 3 months then it makes sense to give him a shot at things

He will know the players pretty well now

Wheras a new manager won't and will take 3 or 4 games to analyse what he's got and what he needs

If the squad is as sub standard as some on here think then why are they thinking a new manager is going to make anything out of them ?

I personally think they are mid table side who have started like cabbage

So stick with him and see if he can get a few results together

Obviously if we lose on Sunday then sack him immediately

i agree that up until the subs he had the lads doing great, then he bottled it and made a massive mistake. And those could cost us back into league one
