What’s prompted this?

Re: What’s prompted this?
I think he realised he'd fecked up Tuesday night blaming the players. I suspect harsh words were spoken in training this morning. This was his way of placating the players.
We will see if he has succeeded on Saturday.

Re: What’s prompted this?
Bloody hell . It's football were talking about not astro physics . Very touchy outburst and quite patronising to the fans .

Hope it wasn’t to placate the players - too many of them let Riza, the coaching staff, the club, the supporters and themselves down on Tuesday.

Re: What’s prompted this?
To me, that’s been manufactured by someone outside of the playing/coaching staff
What a load of gibberish about Rubin, number 10 my arse, we could all see him hugging the touch line

Usually when somebody says they are too smart for you to understand what they are doing, it's just bollocks. Suspect that's the case here. Guess there's no comment on why his brilliant formation and tactics resulted in us shitting the bed at home against one of the only teams in the division who are as bad or worse than us though.

My understanding is that it’s like a diamond midfield four, except the shape is a box, so we must have played a kind of 4-2-2-1-1 and probably ended up confusing ourselves more than Luton.

“ So you've got to understand the game and you've got to understand it tactically. You've got to understand strategical things in the game in respect of player positioning”.
Ahh it’s that we don’t understand then.
I’ll have a look at the league table again I bet I had it the wrong way around.

Re: What’s prompted this?
Coaching mumbo jumbo. Stick to under 21s or youth football Omar.
We might not understand this so called “box” between Robertson, Colwill, Chambers and Ramsey, but maybe the players don’t understand it either given the results.
I tell you what’s not difficult to understand - 4wins in 24 games. On yer bike you charlatan.
Football is a simple game made complicated by pretentious idiots like Riza. Forever changing the starting the line up and formation, not to mention having to use every sub possible. How can your expect any consistency with constant changes?
-
Re: What’s prompted this?
our only hope is that they’re using this time wisely to have someone semi decent ready to appoint as soon as they sack him on Saturday, then get them bedded in over the break.
Obviously though, that 100% isn’t happening

So true:ayatollah:

Re: What’s prompted this?
Sorry? Colwill lines up on the left but comes inside to play 10, alongside Robertson who's already playing 10, allowing left back O'Dowda to play left wing? WTF?

There's still time to get rid before Saturday.
WTF is he talking about?
Completely lost the plot.

He wasn't he was coming inside a lot.

Re: What’s prompted this?
The manager can say all he likes about various members of staff and players etc.doing well but none of them are doing well because if they were we wouldn't be one point ahead of the relegation spots. I think it's time that lot took a reality check.

Pretty much how I seen if, Colwill was drifting inside and ODowda giving the width, it just didn’t work.
-
Re: What’s prompted this?
At one point in the first half we didn't have a box we had a line well inside our own half, with our left winger, center midfielder and number 10 passing the ball between them. Maybe we were just too smart for Luton and that's why they didn't fall for it.

I may not be a tactical genius like Riza but I know one thing. His tactics failed miserably Tuesday night. Luton pack the middle of the pitch so the space for us to attack was out wide but we had no one on the left stretching the game so their defense comfortably sat in.

Re: What’s prompted this?
Our tactics were spot on and the plan worked perfectly well
However Luton didn’t understand the script, obvious really
-
Re: What’s prompted this?
Calum Chambers, he's probably been one of our best midfielders this year.
That's not the ringing endorsement Riza thinks it is :hehe:

I wonder if Riza has any idea how ridiculous he sounds? I somehow doubt it.
Seriously cringeworthy stuff.

He rings up teenagers who message him on Instagram, so I seriously doubt it.
You've gotta understand the game, understand it tactically, as to why 4 wins in 24 is actually good.

Re: What’s prompted this?
I suspect that he's done this to try and correct things after his post match interview, which I saw on the Sky highlights of the game.
To me, it sounded like he was throwing the players under a bus, with the words he was using and to make it worse, I don't recall him taking any accountablity himself, in that interview. His demeanour as well didn't help or the way he came across on tv.
So I think today, maybe it was down to our media team, the backroom staff or the directors or more likely, senior players voicing their concerns to him (that he had to shoulder some of the blame, as it's his team, his tactics, his team selection and his ultimate responsibility) which prompted his 7 minute ramble.
Added to that he's probably seen or been told about the degree of criticism & unrest amongst City fans, on social media last night & this morning and felt he needed to accept the blame for the Luton shocker.
However, what concerns me the most, is the possibility of incidents like this causing a breakdown in trust & goodwill, between Riza and the playing squad. How does this help our cause to stay up?
What a mess.

There shouldn’t need to be a relationship with the manager, their own pride should be enough motivation. Maybe that’s the problem.

We're doomed then. I've not seen much character or pride amongst this lot.

Re: What’s prompted this?
Does this make it look any better? Not sure it does really.
https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/vide...a-cc2bf408ded3
To me, it doesn’t work because it’s a speech which sounds like “don’t forget that all that has happened is not just down to me” and that line would be effective if we were, say, in the wurzel’s position currently. As it is, it comes across a bit “we’re all pretty shit” really. As for box systems and where Rubin Colwill played, it doesn’t really matter when you’ve played as poorly as we did and lost a very important game - the bottom line is that the plan, whatever it was, didn’t work.
One thing that occurs to me though, is that we’ve had a bad Board and failing managers for a while now and managed to stay up, if, as seems likely at the moment, we go down this season, what is it that will have made the difference? It’s got to be the players hasn’t it? They should have been criticised for Tuesday, just like they should be criticised for winning just four in twenty four. They shouldn’t be “thrown under the boss” in an attempt to absolve Omer Riza of blame, but they shouldn’t be placated either. Whether they’re as good as some still say they are or not, they’ve been failures this season - it’s as simple as that.

I wouldn't worry about the breakdown of trust. He's lost the plot completely anyway. This has just made it worse again.
He should never have been put in this position in the first place.
This has just made it worse but we are just throwing games away now until he goes.
This is all on the complete idiots running the club? Will they sack him with 8 games to go is the question and then if they do will we get out of the bottom 3.
It is a complete mess.

Re: What’s prompted this?
I tend to feel a bit sorry for him. He's obviously way out of his depth which has become increasingly visible as things have gone from bad to worse as each week passes. It's one of the characteristics of an experienced manager, good or bad, that they rarely display any sense of desperation to the media when the situation is, indeed, desperate.

He's on a hiding to nothing really, if he was completely calm and collected with what's going then people would find a reason to criticise him for that also.
