Collisions in 20mph zones
Here's a graph taken from the Welsh Government's own website. There's been lots of claims that there's been a dramatic reduction in collisions etc since the 20mph roll-out, but from my limited understanding of graphs, there's been a general year-by-year reduction since 2010 and that 2024 figures seem to be only continuing the trend (lock down excluded for obvious reasons).....

Re: Collisions in 20mph zones
I thought it was a reduction in deaths and injuries that had been reported, not a reduction in collisions.

I would have thought that to die or get injured by a car, there has to be a collision, albeit with a person.

Re: Collisions in 20mph zones
Positive early signs but it will take a few more years of data to see how effective it has truly been. I'd say it's likely that changing the speed limit on a large amount of roads in one go would make drivers 'hyper-vigilant' and that could wear off over time. Will be interesting to see how the trend goes next year.
The one thing I do strongly agree with in that article though is how weird it is that deaths by car are treated as 'normal' . Imagine Cardiff Bus advertising 'only 6 passengers killed each month'

I don't think Delm read the article he posted properly.

No :hehe:
There is no point in talking about it anymore, they do what they can to make life worse in Wales, make the most of your life, and don't let the bustards grind you down.

If the collisions are at 20mph there are few injuries or deaths than at 30mph

Not in my experience driving across Cardiff twice a day. Many vehicles exceed 20mph, but are doing less than 30mph. Before the change they would have been doing more than 30mph.

When people complain about a 20mph making life worse , you know that we have really lost perspective as a society.

It doesn't bother me anymore, I completely ignore their daft rules, like everything else they are a total waste of space and get every single decision wrong.

Do you really think reducing the number of deaths and injuries in road traffic collisions is daft?

No, I don't hit people or crash at whatever speed I do.
Maybe just apply it to bad drivers and stop giving me stupid rules like you have to drive at walking pace and we won't put monster munch near the till because some idiots will buy them when they see them as they have no self-discipline.

Re: Collisions in 20mph zones
Let's get back to City's relegation battle.
Pivotal game again on Saturday, we've got to win!

Monster munch are shit now, back in the day the pickled onion flavour would make your eyes water. Can't have any fun these days.

You walk at 20mph?
While you may consider yourself a good driver that doesn't mean you won't be involved in a collision.

When he described himself as ‘mentally strong’ I had a feeling that would ultimately translate as arrogant and thick.
Glad that’s been cleared up. Sure Sludge will be too. :hehe:

Re: Collisions in 20mph zones
If it was up to me i would ban all cars but make pedestrians have a minimum speed limit of 12 miles per hour getting some of the fat off your beer swilling chip shop eating guts.

Come on, nearly everyone does.
Who is driving down the widest (and least appropriate) 20mph streets at that speed? It's rare, and extremely frustrating when anyone does.
Ironically enough, North Cardiff Blue is just being honest in saying that.

Merely an observation. I'm not fat so it doesn't bother me. My wife is a porker though.
