City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news...xi-game-claire
Football fans are invited to a very special event at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, 9th May.
Kicking off at 6.30pm, a Cardiff City Select eleven, captained by Joe Ledley, will take on an international all-star eleven, led by another former Bluebirds favourite, David Marshall.
The game, being played in memory of Claire Nokes, will raise money for the Prop Appeal – a fund managed by Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to support individuals undergoing brain injury rehabilitation and their families.
Claire, daughter of Cardiff City F.C Medical Director, Len Nokes, collapsed at a friend’s home in December 2016 having suffered a cardiac arrest, subsequently confirmed as having been brought on by a condition called myocarditis. She had suffered a hypoxic brain injury and would be in a vegetative state for the next (and last) eight months of her life, passing away on October 3rd, 2017, at just 26 years of age.
The Prop Appeal at Rookwood Hospital provided invaluable support for the Nokes family during the most difficult of times. This May, famous faces are coming together to give a little back.
Joining Joe Ledley back on Cardiff City soil will be Sean Morrison, Gavin Rae, Kevin McNaughton, Scott Young, Lee Tomlin, Lee Peltier, Craig Conway, Robert Earnshaw, Jay Bothroyd, Michael Chopra, Fraizer Campbell, Darren Purse, Ben Turner, Lee Camp, Chris Burke, Andy Legg, Damon Searle, Jason Fowler, Anthony Pilkington plus more.
For the opposition, captained by former Bluebird and Scotland skipper David Marshall, several familiar faces are set to show, including former Swansea City players Lee Trundle, Leon Britton and Angel Rangel! A number of famous celebrities from other sports and entertainment will also be featuring.
Representatives of Cardiff City FC Women and Swansea City Ladies will also take to the field, including City’s Ffion Price, Lisa Owen, Lily Billingham, Fiona Barry and Shannon Evans; and Nia Jones, Katy Hosford, Rachel Cullen, Ellie Lake and Chloe Chivers of the Swans.
Grandstand Level 3 (Ricoh Suite) tickets for this special fixture, at which supporters will have the opportunity of sharing a moment with the players after the match, are on sale now and priced as follows:
Adults @ £10
Junior U16 @ £1
Family ticket (2 x adult and 2 x U16) @ £17.50
Group Tickets: email sales@cardiffcityfc.co.uk

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
some guys on twitter absolutely FUMING that there are 3 Swansea players involved
-
Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
Not just any 3 Swansea players but Lee Frigging Trundle. What cretin thought that was a good idea 24 hours after our likely relegation.
-
Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
As classless as Trundle has been in the past, nearly 20 years ago, (let's be honest, if a City player had held up a flag with 'Fuuck Off Swansea' emblazoned on it most would laugh) does anyone think he's going to do the same again?
There's some proper dramatics about his attendance. He's been invited in the role of panto villain and he's accepted, decent of him really.

Absolutely, plus we get an atmosphere as well!

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
If his presence puts some bums on seats and adds to the amount raised for charity, then I can't see a problem.
There's another thread running at the moment about how much we care about the club now as we've gotten older, compared to the past. I think his so called hatred of us has probably mellowed with the passage of time, in a similar manner. It's probably mellowed in a similar manner to my hatred of him, for hating the club I used to feel more connected to than I do now.

I’m more shocked at the inclusion of Lee Tomlin

Exactly, if he has been asked to do it and has agreed, knowing he will likely still get some abuse then fair play to him.
Plus he probably still has some tekkers. Tomlin on one side too.

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
It would be more interesting if Joe Ledley's team played the current first team.

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
Not sure what this says about me, but, as has been mentioned this season, there’s no way I’d accept Tate as an assistant to Steve Cooper at City, but I read that about Trundle and think good on him - Ive no problem at all with him playing in that game.

Yea I probably wouldn't want Trundle involved longer term either mind :hehe:.
For a one off charity game though I wouldn't care if Trundle, Tate or Trump came along. Fair play to all involved.

It's a charity game. Lighten up.

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
I hate to say it, but I thought he came across as a decent bloke on Undr the Cosh. More panto villain than genuine wanker (like Tate). He's still ripping up the Cymru South at age 48 as well:

It's an admittedly weird structure for the game, mind, even if it is just for charity. If they wanted to get Swansea players involved (including the female players), why didn't they just do a Cardiff v Swansea game? Why is David Marshall playing for (and captaining) the other team?
Not that it matters, it's all for a good cause.

No, I can’t explain it, but I wouldn’t want Tate to play in the charity game - maybe because, as mentioned earlier, Trundle is that pantomime villain character in a way Tate isn’t?

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
Makes me realize how lucky I was to survive my cardiac arrest at home just over 2 1/2 years ago. Luckily for me I avoided any brain injury, but it could have been very different without my son doing CPR immediately.

Exactly, he’d fit in our midfield at present.

My goodness, your son found himself in a situation no family member would ever want to be in, however, he acted heroically.
It couldn't have been easy for him to gather his thoughts and stop himself from panicking.

trundle offering to withdraw from the game as idiots on social media saying they won't go because of the Swansea players involved.
he seems happy to come and be the pantomime villain

It's unbelievable the small-minded mentality of some people, isn't it!
His presence might actually help put extra bums on seats, that can only be good for the cause.

yeah it's a pathetic attitude, to talk about boycotting a charity match because a guy who played for Swansea 15 years ago is taking part. very much missing the point.

City got some sensitive beauts in the fan base if Trundle's presence at a charity match is causing them to hissy fit. Probably the same beauts wailing who sing songs about Jack baastards being shagged by their fathers at 10 years old?

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
A good cause, not a time for petty rivalries, let's all try and go and enjoy a friendly to show some respect for a club employee who has given a lot to the club for a very long time.

Yes, though in fairness, they are getting on a bit now. They'll be a bit rusty and haven't any real match practice in years, so it might be closer than we think, but in the end it'll be a comfortable 5-1 win. To Ledley's team.

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
Can see both sides of the argument. On one hand it's for charity but on another side who wants to watch Lee Trundle taking the piss a week after we've been relegated. As for the comments he's a sound bloke unlike Alan Tate, I've seen first hand in a few pubs down the years that this isn't the case in the slightest. He may have mellowed a bit but a baffling own goal from the club to get them involved, especially a week on from potential relegation.
If the aim is to put bums on seats for charity then just likeable ex-city players back involved? There are absolutely plenty.
The whole thing has been made into a bit of a story now which may raise exposure at least. I won't be going regardless but will buy a ticket to contribute as I normally do for these type of things/testimonials.

We have a bizarrely precious fanbase, see also the fume about Mark Harris scoring for Oxford against us

It's amusing people on social media moaning about participants of a charity game when most people commenting wouldn't attend even if it was an all city legends match.
There's enough to complain about at the moment, a few ex Swansea players in a charity match probably shouldn't be one of them.

Trundle is one of several Swansea stars invited to run out on the day, with Leon Britton and Angel Rangel also pencilled in to line up for Marshall's international XI.
However, Trundle, seemingly aware of his frosty and somewhat turbulent relationship with Cardiff fans, has offered to step aside if his appearance is likely to have a negative impact.
Taking to social media, he said: "No banter at all here. I was playing to help raise money but if it affects people coming to watch I won’t play as I don’t want the Chairty [sic] to lose out.
"I was only getting involved to try and help @Health_Charity and help raise as much funds as possible."
Responding to a fan, he added: "I do get where they are coming from.
"I get stick on here and I give it back but they are thinking worst case scenario for them in the league and I’m at their ground the week after."

And here is the issue, He and most who read what the clown posts on socials know he will not be able to help himself if we get relegated
why take the risk ?

Re: City XI vs All Stars XI - A game for Claire
Anyone going to this?
Thinking about it - seems about 1000 tickets sold (£10,000 raised so far)
