I very much doubt whether any league 1 footballer is on as little as 1000 per week. Vardy would command much more than that.

He came within a whisker of joining City when he went to Leicester. His non league club had agreed the transfer fee with both us and Leicester and both clubs had agreed wages with him. He simply chose Leicester as they were nearer to his home.

Steve, the reason that he chose Leicester was that he wanted to be near, IIRC, his son who lived in Sheffield with his mother.

ok ignoring the fact that he will be getting a lot more money than that.

And ignoring the fact that we've been burnt several times before by that kind of deal - Ramsey, Fowler etc. He would almost certainly get a hamstring injury almost immediately due to our training methods.

And we haven't shown any aptitude over recent years to play in a way that would suit Vardy's abilities

And that is the one position that we are relatively well stacked - Salech, Robinson, Davies all should be good at this level.

Even after all that - yeah I'd probably take him - the guys still quality and it would be a bit of fun.
You know in the long run it'd be more trouble than it's worth, but it might be fun for a while - like getting off with the receptionist at the work Christmas party.

In all seriousness out of all the 72 EFL clubs why would Jamie Vardy say to himself - "I really fancy playing for that sleeping giant down in South Wales, I will move 180 miles to play for a well run club with a happy and unified support and a proven quality experienced manager"

We might as well say if Ronaldo fancied playing down the CCS would you want him...?

plus we have, as detailed earlier, too many of these examples - I still shiver at the Micky Burns episode! Never mind Fowler and of course he who cannot be criticised....

Jamie Vardy wouldn't be getting any Hamstring injuries, he would train when he liked, probably turn up on a Thursday, do a bit of finishing and stretching, see you Saturday. Nobody at this level would tell him how he should train or manage his body, the man would do whatever he wanted to do, and rightly so.

Yes I’m quite aware that 1k a week it is not a great amount, especially for a L1 footballer, hence my WTF.

He will be getting far more than 10k a week too wherever he turns up.

yes we know he will end up at a much higher level, and he will get a much bigger salary - that much is obvious.

but imagine a scenario where we could sign him, and pay him a typical salary for a leading league one player - would you want him?

that in itself is a far more interesting question as it is just asking you to consider what he would bring to the club etc

I'd absolutely have him, I wouldn't even have to think about it. If we're going all hypothetical then Vardy or similar would agree to a 12 month contract as well. Basically, would I want an ageing but very fit and Athletic top level, over a sustained period of time, goalscorer, on terms that suits the club and the supporters. Yes, I would.
