Not in an Olympic year, no. There is a junior award so maybe he'll have a chance at that.

yeah totally, he's made a reasonable splash in the papers outside of the sports pages, so he could absolutely win it.
a few things count against him though, having his success such a long time before the next spoty, in a minority sport etc, but could still do it no problem.

Re: Luke Littler for Sports personality of the year?
No chance, 6 of the last 7 have been female / ethnic minority / ginger.

Re: Luke Littler for Sports personality of the year?
Be very harsh on Phil Taylor if the kid won it first go

Re: Luke Littler for Sports personality of the year?
I see two key issues:
1) Darts isn't really a proper sport.
2) he doesn't have a whole lot of personality on show. That is probably because he is so young and not had any media training yet though.

He's been playing 14.5 years https://www.itv.com/news/granada/202...rst-dart-board
It looks like he was better at hitting triple twenties than speaking at 18 months!

You just have to look at the lad to realise darts isn't a proper sport
He's obese and if you need fitness for a pastime to be classed as a sport .....and clearly you do ......he's not got much
16 year old footballers , rugby players , swimmers don't go around with huge weight problems like that
That doesn't mean he isn't a lad with talent and should do something about his weight but he's not a sportsman

He's 7/1 favourite at the mo so not great odds. Ronnie O'Sullivan at 40-1 is a decent bet. If he can win another world champs and get shortlisted he'd walk the public vote.

Re: Luke Littler for Sports personality of the year?
That Rugby League Player Kevin Sienfield who carried his best friend dying from MND over the finish line , raising huge amounts after all those marathons
That's a sporting personality
An absolute legend
The show itself is a joke

Stop being fatist!
He needs the fuel, he takes the sport seriously and eats a balanced diet for maximum performance, cheese and ham omelet for breakfast, ham and cheese pizza for lunch, and kebabs for dinner all washed down with cans of tizer !!!
There's only one Luke Littler .................................................. .........................

He's more famous than the last two winners already!
yes and no
Certainly he's made a big splash, and is is going ot be known to people who don't watch a lot of sport from the newspaper interest etc, but the biggest darts games these days get tv viewing figures of around 1 million I think whereas the England women's team were what 15-20 million?

Yes, a million for the world final is as good as it gets. Strange, in a way, that the BDO world finals regularly got 3-4 for the final, despite being much poorer events, simply by being free to view

Thanks for that. It seems that audience figures for the PDC world champs have increased quite a bit in recent years. I wasn't aware of that.

There should be even more tonight with all this build-up, I can see sponsorship deals with Tizer, Dominoes, and German Doner Kebabs no matter what the result is!
