I saw the wonderful Portsmouth Sinfonia the the New Theatre in Cardiff many decades ago. Some weren't musicians whilst those who were had to play a different instruments from their first choice ones. It was a fine night. Brian Eno, Gavin Bryars and Michael Neiman were part of them. Many renditions are on YouTube.

I saw them live at St Davids Hall. Very entertaining and very accomplished. A thoroughly enjoyable evening. A couple sitting next to us kept looking at each other and left at the interval saying that is was not what they were expecting. They didn't get it. Or, perhaps they preferred the works of Nirvana and Hawkwind played on more traditional instruments.
