Great film but apparently far less gory than the book.
Don't think I could read the book.
Christian Bale superb.

The book is full on serial sexual violence , murder of children , decapitation and mutilation of women , sex with dead bodies
Its absolutely horrific
Re: Books To Only Read Once , Parental Discretion etc

Re: Books To Only Read Once , Parental Discretion etc
The Adventures of Noddy haunt me to this day
Haven't been able to face The Further Adventures yet
But one day..........

The bible is a very violent book.
Baby murders, adult murders, rape, incest etc.
Re: Books To Only Read Once , Parental Discretion etc
The book is very clever, in that it almost lulls you into boredom. Long stretches of nothing, except Bateman describing his music, his clothes, his women, and his job - and then BAM - he kills someone, then it's back to the endless nothingness....
Does he really kill them? Is he just imagining it all? Who knows. Reading the book, I felt that yes, he does, but it doesn't matter. He was the king of the world, and could do whatever he wanted. No-one believed him, and they didn't care either. He could say what he liked, and they all just nod. They've got their own version. A cruel critique of capitalism at it's finest.
The film went for laughs. It nearly succeeds, but it hasn't got the power of the book.

The casual way he kills a child , then when the kids mother turns up he pretends he's a doctor , says he thinks the boys going to be OK, knowing he's dead then just switches to his workout regime is creepy

Indeed , all cobblers , but very violent
Re: Books To Only Read Once , Parental Discretion etc
A Clockwork Orange is a fascinating read. It takes quite a bit of effort in getting to grips with Nadsat, the vernacular used by the protagonist and his chums.
Re: Books To Only Read Once , Parental Discretion etc
Disturbing read : Helter Skelter: by Vincent Bugliosi the prosecutor in the Charles Manson trail .
Better than the film : One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey
