I was going to say this.
The final make-the-audience-jump trick has been used many times since, and probably a few times before, but not anywhere near as effectively as in Carrie.
Re: Electrifying ends to films
Bonnie and Clyde
The violent shooting of them at the end is nothing exceptional now
But in an era when the bad guys would normally die from a single gunshot to the chest without a drop of blood anywhere this was exceptional violence

Great call
A very violent ending for a film made in 1967
Mind you it was quite a violent film right through
Faye Dunaway was so sexy in that film
Re: Electrifying ends to films
The Wild Bunch
Very intense and graphic shoot out at the end
Re: Electrifying ends to films
Chinatown
Faye Dunaway gets her head blown off by the police her father rushes to cradle her daughter who he is the father of as he was abusing dunaway as a child and got her pregnant
Horrific stuff

Bob Hoskins is incredible in this scene.
