The simple answer to all your questioning of Pep is ‘If my auntie had bollocks etc etc’. His side has just pulled off the treble and you’re deriding him as a lucky manager. Yes, they’ve spent money but the crux of that is who you spend it on. The big spenders have always been around in football right back to the days of Preston, Blackburn and those other Lancashire pioneers luring Scots south of the border, it isn’t a recent phenomenon. The big winners are always the ones who spend the big money cleverly, Pep has done that at Man City, he’s proved that he’s a top notch manager, he and his teams find a way to win. They’ll have an equally dedicated successor in Vincent Kompany when the time is right as well, he’s turning top jobs down as we speak as he knows his fate.

It wasn't a great game or a great performance, and for a while, it looked like he'd made some wrong choices. But he didn't, he won. He managed a team to the treble. Yes, there is a disgusting amount of money involved. But you can't just buy it. PSG have proved that.

And the simple answer is that he put out a team that scored a goal and didn't concede one. On any other Saturday, 3 points in the bag. That's how you win things.

Re: Pep could make Harry Maguire look good
"Pep isn't a good manager because he could've lost all the finals he won" is an interesting take :sherlock:

I think mere mortals with unreal amounts of money to spend on players are being lauded as majicians
I don't buy that

Well it would be if that's the take that had been offered
But it isn't

If you have loads of money you can afford to make mistakes
The money being spent in football these days is way beyond that of Preston, Burnley , Wolves etc in real terms
The big winners are the teams that can last out the cash year upon year

Oh so he’s a good manager in all the other finals he won, but it’s just this one he’s a mediocre manager for winning?
Gotcha

You are very confused
If your hero was managing a unfancied top flight team and got them to cast aside the big boys in the premiership to win the title ......and then took this side to beat Europe's best and win the champions league ?
Then he's the world's best manager blah blah blah
All this cap doffing to these hugely over paid people is ridiculous

Who’s my hero?
Spending in the last 5 years:
Man City - £1000m
Inter - £700m
Geez. Those poor (in terms of luck and finances) Italians having to come up against the power house that is Man City.

I think what Sludge it trying to say is that you ain’t going to get a team like Steaua Bucharest winning the competition anytime soon

Do you think that Sam Allardyce, Gareth Southgate, David Moyes etc could do what Pep has done at Man City?

Have Sam Allardyce and Moyes had access to the money pep has ?
In real terms , if they did then yes they could

£300m over 5 years isn’t much in football these days. Championship clubs spend that in a similar time period. We’ve spent about £80m in that time and have been cutting costs for years.
City are the 4th highest spending team in the last 5 years. Inter are the 12th highest.
Inter Milan are hardly the plucky rebels against the evil Death Star. They’re a Chinese state backed club that spend hundreds of millions. Over £1B in the last decade.
Football has been about money for decades, just because it annoys you doesn’t change that.
-
Re: Pep could make Harry Maguire look good
Sludge you are getting boring here.
The big spenders have always won but only two managers in English football history have done the treble. There's clearly something there that sets both Guardiola and Fergie apart from the rest.
Man City have had unlimited funds for a while now but are miles better under Pep than they were under Hughes, Roberto Mancini or Manuel Pellegrini. Chelsea the same but couldn't do the treble under Jose and Newcastle won't under their manager.

So man City are 4th in the list of high spenders
Inter are 12th
So man City are clearly at an advantage and a big one

Jose was the special one
Everyone was talking about a human being as if he was a robot
Fergies United were 2 late goals away from losing that treble
All this talk about these modern day managers with lots of money somehow walking on water is embarrassing
Some of you need to get a grip

Branding to sell a product.
But they didn't lose and Fergie IMO is the best of the bunch as he's proved with a lowly Scottish team in Aberdeen to have something on his CV that Pep and the others never will.
No one says they walk on water but only an idiot would say that Pep's teams don't play good football. Yes they spend lots of money to get the players but as a coach he does things that the likes of Conte, Jose etc can't do.

I think saying greatest manager in the world etc is way over the top
Fergie was a great manager but had loads of money behind him
Wether they play good football or not is not relevant
If pep loses his way .....which he will .....then his ability as a manager will show through if he's managing Everton down the bottom
If he's as good as people claim then he will have to get them in the top four , with little money ?
I think that would be a fair test
