I don’t think proximity to england is an obstacle as Ireland manage ok as an EU outpost. Trade links between Wales and and Eire/Mainland Europe will have to be improved.
The thought of Wales as an appendage of an increasingly isolated England would appear considerably less attractive than the alternative.
According to Wikipedia:
"Through history, the Welsh dragon was depicted with an erect penis to represent masculinity and fertility, but it appears that it wasn't until the mid 18th to late 19th century that the dragon was 'castrated' in the public eye..."
