FT: GERMANY 2 - 2 HUNGARY.
MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head
- This will be the first meeting between the two sides at a European Championship.
- They met twice at the 1954 World Cup in their only previous fixtures at a major tournament. Hungary won 8-3 in the group stages, with West Germany triumphing 3-2 in the final.
- That group stage defeat remains Germany's heaviest at a Euros or World Cup.
- The Germans have won the two most recent meetings under Joachim Low - a 3-0 victory in May 2010 and 2-0 in June 2016.
Germany
- Germany could be eliminated at the group stages of consecutive major tournaments for the first time in their history.
- They have now scored a combined 302 goals across all World Cups and Euros - the most of any nation. France are second with 184.
- Kai Havertz became Germany's youngest ever European Championship finals goalscorer against Portugal, aged 22 years and eight days.
- Havertz also became the first player in this German squad to score a goal at any Euros.
Hungary
- They can win their final group game of a major tournament for the first time since a 3-1 victory over Bulgaria in the 1966 World Cup.
- Roland Sallai has scored two goals and assisted one in his last four appearances for Hungary.
- Attila Fiola has recorded two goals in his last four appearances for Hungary, after failing to score on his first 33 caps.
- Hungary are on a run of five games without a win at a European Championship (D3, L2)

Re: GERMANY v HUNGARY. ko 8pm
The Hungarian goal has sent Germany to the bottom of the group as things stand. (I'm watching that game on German TV at the same time as the France v Portugal game on BBC).

They're bottom as things stand on British TV too.

Its all Germany. Battering them.

I think a goal for France saves Germany and puts Portugal out (as it stands).
Long way to go yet. Hungary starting to hang on. This would be quite a backs to the wall effort.

Portugal have just slipped to the bottom of the group after going 2-1 down to Portugal and Germany are now due to progress to the last 16 even with just 3 points....

I thought it was the 4 best placed 3rd teams. 4th doesn't qualify even if better than a third placed team.

Aren't things tough enough for Portugal already, now they are losing to themselves? :hehe:

Incredible. Germany equalise and Hungary regain the lead straight from kick off.
Who said scrap the groups? Great stuff.

These extra qualifiers from 3rd place finishes keep the pools alive right to the end.
