Best player to play for city
I have seen a few since 1968. Brian Harris is up there with the best for me. I also liked Brian Mcdermott the former Reading manager. But for me it has to be Eddie Newton. Pure class.

Eddie Newton?
There have been loads of better players since his days here.
He stood out in a poor team in the lowest division in the football league.
Nowhere near the likes of Whittingham
Ramsey,Ledley,Gabbidon,Bothroyd,Bennett brothers,Earsham,Kavanagh and many many more.

Koumas in his first spell here. Unplayable at times for the opposition.

Re: Best player to play for city
When they were playing for us, or played for us at some point in their career?
Hasselbaink, Fowler, Ramsey, Schmeichel possibly in the second category.
Bothroyd, Marshall, Whittingham whilst playing for us.

I guess it’s how people perceive the word ‘great’, but the one who was great at making me smile with his antics was Phil Stant.

And?
They weren't the Chelsea they are today.
Ramsey played far more Premier league games
Scored winning fa Cup goals.
Was in the euro team of the tournament.
Think that beats playing for Chelsea

Think he's giving his best players and not saying they played in that team.

Re: Best player to play for city
Koumas for me, just about edges it in terms of pure performance I've seen in a city shirt.
When I consider how his lifestyle must have impacted on his performance, I think he is also probably the player I've seen here with the most potential. He could have played at any level he wanted to ! Had a good career , but with a bit of dedication I think he could have been one of the best in the Premier league

You should change the heading to "best player you've seen" because there is no doubt that John Charles was a global superstar and therefore had to be the best footballer to have played for the City.

Re: Best player to play for city
In my lifetime, Peter Whittingham. His coolness, his touch, his dead ball skill the way he would look up and do something outrageous. For the life of me, I still can figure out why he never made it to the top. Desire?

Probably because he was a passenger when he was at his most creative. When Mackay got him involved in things like defending and tackling, he lost his attacking flair. I'm not saying either scenario is better, but that's how it worked out.

I wish we could have seen Earnshaw in the PL in 2000/01 when he first started making his mark. I think he could have been even more special than he was. He was that good.

The OP didn't ask who was the best we had seen, he asked who was the best! John Charles stand head and shoulders above all the others,
Name me another city player that a foreign club has erected a statue of to remind young supporters of his greatness and in gratitude for his ability and his loyalty.
