Re: Le Monde Restaurant, Cardiff
We’ve just been given a voucher for Pasture in High St Arcade, reviews are pretty good. Went to The Ivy the other week, not impressed at all but a recent visit to The Botanist was excellent.

Re: Le Monde Restaurant, Cardiff
I've been to Le Monde many times and never been disappointed. But not for lunch. The garlic prawns are as good as you'll get anywhere and the steak is laways good. Dover sole also top class.

Never realised we had so many snobs on the site :hehe:. Caroline Street every time for me after a skinful and if you wanted to go a bit up market from Dorothy's, there was always that restaurant every one used to do a runner from - the Excel?

Re: Le Monde Restaurant, Cardiff

Hardly a snob Bob . I prefer to see myself as more of a gourmet or epicure...... :hehe:

Fancy a trip to the botanist, wife went to the one in Bath and said it was good. As for the Ivy, been to the one in Kensington a few times so knew to give that a miss. Le Monde was the place back in the day, rustic sawdust look etc....

Didn’t it close after those developers decided to ruin Guildford Crescent?

First time I ate there it was stunning , totally different approach to Indian food . I am thinking standards are slipping though.
Hope I am wrong.

The people who took it over are the ones who owned it originally. The bad time was between them leaving and coming back I think.

its a nice way to go for a meal and for most of us not an every day event.
I know better places to take someone to dinner, but sadly none of them are in Cardiff. :hehe:

Yep, we enjoyed The Botanist Jim, surprisingly reasonable as well compared to the ‘nowhere near as good’ Ivy.

It’s on St Mary St now, I may be mistaken but I think it’s where The Louis used to be.

Apparently they hang the meat from the ceiling, I’d never go there, the steaks are too high:getscoat:

It's true, there aren't many really good restaurants in the city - it's all very samey.
In the same way, there are no really good shops in Cardiff. They're all the same, and all selling the same stuff.
This is probably because business rates and rentals mean only the chains can afford it.
The specialist shops have been forced out.
