My old grand dad - born 1901 - always used to call 5/- 'a dollar'.

I thought from that the $/£ rate under the gold standard was exactly $4 to £1. But from that graph, I was wrong.

And the euro traded at 1.50 to the pound around its inception, were at 1.15 now and will probably reach parity soon...Thats why a dublin bus driver earns as much as a Belfast accountant in real terms.

If you look at skill then it makes sense
Not many accountants are able to drive a bus
Most bus drivers can add up
