When was the last time we had our manager poached by another club?
All of our recent ones seem to have been sacked, or left “by mutual consent”.
Can anyone remember when we had a manager that was poached off us?

In all honesty I would think that the number of managers pinched in contract is very few and far between

Re: When was the last time we had our manager poached by another club?
Seems the jacks have had quite a few that have gone onto bigger clubs

Paul Clement

Re: When was the last time we had our manager poached by another club?
Phil Neil, pinched by Steve Coppell to Manchester City.
I'm in the minority who thought Phil Neil was doing ok

Didnt we finish our lowest ever placing with him in charge?

I still get the occasional nightmare about his reign.
As well as the Osman Hibbitt era.

Frank O'Farrell went to Iran Incidently he's 93 now.

Re: When was the last time we had our manager poached by another club?
Phil Neal was a legend in his own mind, managed us while looking down his nose at us.

Superb question.
In the last 20 years the best 3 managers we've had have all been sacked - Jones, Mackay and Warnock. Of them all, I felt Mackay's sacking was the most unjustified. Jones failed at Sheffield Wednesday. Mackay did nothing after he was with us. Warnock is Warnock and he's got Boro doing ok.
The bizarre one in all of this is Solskjaer, who was rubbish for us, but has taken Man Utd to the top of the Premier League this season and they now look to be challengers again. Who'd have thunked that?

Frank Burrows to Portsmouth in 1989 is the answer.
Before him, it was Len Ashurst to Sunderland in 1984.
I also though Neal was doing ok. But, just checking, W4 D4 L12 in his first 20 games.
1996/97 W5 D2 L4 in his 11 games and I was disappointed he went to be assistant to Coppell at Man C. Coppell quit after 1 month with stress, and Neal became manager there. They had a bad run of managers at the time. Horton, Ball, Coppell, Neal, Frank Clark, Joe Royle, Keegan and Pearce.
Neal at Man C W2 D1 L7.

MM was going places, wasnt he approached by Norwich when they were in the EPL ? ? ? he was then fav to go to palace after us
of course his name was toxic after us
always looked to be a top manager in the making though

Burrows went to Pompey as an assistant, becoming manager after John Gregory was sacked.

Len Ashurst , after his second spell, he resigned to join Sri Pahang ,which then opened the door to managing the mighty Weymouth.
