I'd say a good 80% of their songs are about taking drugs, recorded while on drugs and music to take drugs to.

Also Hawkwind were off their tree on LSD when they produced a lot of their best 70s music.
How dare you, you're talking about my namesake !! You're not wrong though, the Moodies were famous for their parties, in which copious amounts of illegal substances were consumed. They were also great friends with Timothy Leary, who was a strong advocate of psychedelic substances.
Many of their songs had barely concealed references to drug use, such as Fly Me High, Floating and Higher and Higher.

Roger Daltry was on one of rock music cruises I go on with my wife and he had a Q & A session on deck. He talked about his experiences in The Who and I was very surprised to hear that he was never into drugs at all, which is amazing when you consider the lifestyle of his co band members. I would have put good money on him being a drug user. He said that he spent much of his time on DIY projects and had no time or the inclination to indulge in substance abuse.
If you had said to me back in the 70's which rock star looked most off his trolley, without hesitation I would have said Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. But yet again I would have been way off the mark. It was only his stage persona and he has said during interviews that he never took drugs. Probably the most eloquent of speakers you will ever hear.

Such a memory of listening to that album constantly in Newport Bus Station and on the Cardiff bus on the to Castleton for an 8hr bollocking from customers or management on a 2-10 shift call centre job.
Went to a job working with lime to neutralise acidic waste then caking it in a hand pushed press and it was so much better.
Never had to worry about nasal hair then 😀
