Oh really ? So just because she's the first black female MP, she has a free rein to make racist or anti-white comments in public does she ? "White people like to divide and rule" is one of hers and there are many others if you wish to check. There is no excuse for this type of behaviour regardless of colour so I most certainly do not respect her just because of her status.

I am certainly not an apologist for the Tories. I had been a Labour voter all my life until Jezza took over. Brought up that way, more a socialist than a capitalist but the lines have been blurred ever since Blair came to power. However, the dream ticket of Corbyn and McDonnell made me run for the hills and there was no way I would blindly vote for them.
As dour as Gordon Brown was, the man was intellectually gifted. And he had the foresight of not agreeing to adopting the euro as our currency. If for instance it had been a choice of him or Boris, you may have had a point about "would it have been worse under Labour?" But Corbyn et al ? Really ?!!
Abbott read history at Cambridge
Funny how all these Tory apologists were "Labour all their lives"

Comparing the Labour party in UK with the Labour party in New Zealand is like comparing Jack the Ripper with a fluffy bunny rabbit. Also, the people who are most vociferous on this forum and the media in general, about criticising the current Government, are the ones who refuse to accept the result of the Brexit vote and the last election, consider anyone who voted for either to be idiots and won't shut up until the will of the British people is ignored and both are reversed. NB to them - the next election isn't until 2024 and by then we will be long shot of the EU and covid-19.

I'm pointing out some relevant facts. She's the country's first female black MP and receives an almost unparalleled level of abuse
She's referring to the British Empire with "White people like to divide and rule", well she's not wrong is she?

Chalk and cheese clearly just wouldn’t do this difference justice.

The catastrophe was probably caused by lax Chinese bio-security. Labour would have been in the same position. Would they have made the same decisions ? Who knows. This Govt. carries the can - that's the responsibility that comes with being in power..

What do you think the UK Government have done well in the Covid 19 crisis?

Absolutely not ! I've already said that Boris and Co. have not covered themselves in glory and I stand by that.
But the post you've responded to is about whether Ms Abbott should be put on a pedestal just because she is the country's first black female MP. I suggest not, given the overtly racist, anti-white comments she has made in the past.
-
Re: Cummings , Johnson , Hancock , Gove , Patel
Personally I am up to here with the politics of the way this crisis hay been handled.
People have died and are still dying because the bunch of people who are supposed to be running the country are out of their depth and don’t know what do next.
I think TOBW above hit the nail. Let the people of the UK get on with doing things the way they want and accept the consequences that arise.

Never underestimate the sensitivity of a white man. No one in the equivalent position has an easier life than the white man yet they can't stop ****ing whinging.

In my view there's nothing racist in the statement, although it would be pretty historically inaccurate to claim "black people like to divide and rule" when referring to the tactics of the British Empire.
Why do you feel its racist?

To be honest, I'm not remotely interested in speculating on how Messrs Corbyn and McDonald and Dianne Abbott would have done, they're all backbenchers now I believe and so what's the point? We have a Government that has overseen a situation where, no matter what stats you look at, the UK compares poorly with the rest of the world and now they've managed to create a situation whereby they are struggling to keep the country on board with their guidelines with many believing they are putting party and personal matters above people's wellbeing.

It's true mate. Never under estimate how much easier life for us.
It's true you're being a sensitive soul by crying racism too. It wasn't the cleverest thing for her to say, but it doesn't make it wrong.

We wont be long shot of covid 19 if the government response to it is anything to go by
And you think the EU nonsense will sorted by then ?
You have been sold a kipper

I accept as a generality that life is easier for us than many black people but being overtly racist is unacceptable behaviour, especially for one in the public eye. Ms Abbott has a long history of making unsavoury comments that are at best naive and at worse divisive.
Putting aside my "sensitivities" for one moment, do you honestly believe her comments help multi-culturism prosper in this country or are they more likely to drive a wedge between communities ?

I don’t that’s why I said it’s stupid for her to say it but she’s not wrong and anyone being sensitive over it is doing so because they already don’t like her.

Re: Cummings , Johnson , Hancock , Gove , Patel
Norman Tebbit , the swivel eyed loon liked going on about the cricket test
What a shining light for racial relations he was
He reckoned for those second generation west indian and Pakistani and indian people it was wrong for them to support the land of their forefathers and they should support England
Obviously white english people , born of English people living in spain always support spain and not england when the countries meet

FFS,
I come home from work, check in on here for some footy related topics and it’s another politics soap box for a few bored fellas with nothing better to do.
Mike / moderators .......can you redirect these threads to the politics forum please.

Re: Cummings , Johnson , Hancock , Gove , Patel
Dealing with this pandemic is not a right/left or Tory/Labour issue - it's about competence or lack of. Johnson (under Cummings' advice) has surrounded himself with a cabinet containing people like Hancock, Patel, Williamson, Rabb etc - all of whom would have been out of their depth as Parish councillors 20 years ago.
If we had May, Cameron, Brown, Blair, Major or even Thatcher as PM now, I daresay some mistakes would have been made but I'm sure we would have avoided the shameful, shambolic incompetence that currently embarrasses and endangers us.

Spot on.
