Is there a quick fix?
Seems to have lost all performance, and is quite sluggish now.
I have run a CC cleaner thingy, but is there a way to get rid of any bugs etc on it? Restore factory settings type thing?

Use your desktop for porn.
RAM upgrade. Won't cost much and easy to install with a small screw driver.
Also, once done, is there a way of wiping all viruses as I think mine must be swamped as I havent had any anti virus on it for about a year.
go on crucial memory's website. Run their scanner. It will hsow you how much ram you have and what you can upgrade it to. You dont have to buy from them but it will give you a good idea of what you need
Probably got lots of programs set to run at startup. Go to run > msconfig and see what runs on startup. There will probably be programs you rarely use automatically starting.
Uncheck their boxes. You'll still be able to use the programs when you start them yourself.
There's something else going on which might not be good and I'd get it looked at professionally if you really know nothing about computersRAM upgrade. Won't cost much and easy to install with a small screw driver.
RAM upgrade is the cheapest and fastest upgrade but run the Crucial checker first to see if you CAN actually upgrade.
I hope you don't do Internet banking or buy anything online if you have no anti virus.
Possible fixes for speeding up your Laptop:
-Do a clean reinstall of windows. If your running anything olders than windows 7, look at upgrading. Cheap copies are available on eBay. I got a license for £10 the other day, no CD, but I have one anyway.
-Upgrade your RAM. If you have less than 4GB it can be worth adding some more, especially if you run DDR3, not o much if you run DDR2.
-Get a new Hard Drive. Solid State Hybrid Drives allow plenty of space with terrific increases in speed. And if your budget stretches to a Solid State Drive (Flash) then go for this, but you will lose out on space.
-Stop using Chrome. It is sooo bloody slow these days.
-Stop using anti virus software, slows down you computer alot.

keep it in a laptop bag, its a delicate instrument, treat it with care will last a lifetime.
I find that running the following (free) software helps speed up sluggish computers:
1. Disc Cleanup (in Windows)
2. CCleaner
3. Wise Disc Cleaner (which includes a disc defragmenter)
4. Wise Registry Cleaner (which includes a registry defragmenter)
5. Malware Bytes Anti-Malware.
and to speed it up drop it out of a windows.
Do not take advice from Barry Dragon, for ****s sake.
As regards anti-virus - this does seem to be a huge pain. I'm never that confident that it actually does much anyway. Mine is forever telling me that it's found something but then asks me what I want to do about it. I've no idea - that's why I pay for antivirus!
What I would love is a cheap, simple computer that I use exclusively for internet banking; working at home; and possibly photo editing. I would then use my laptop for things like this board, personal email, ebay etc. My thinking being that if I do not subject the "clean" computer to the horrors of the wider internet, it should stay clean and therefore secure for internet banking (and work). Is this possible/a good idea? If so, what is the best way to do it?
