I've got one which is the Apple TV2, the later ones can't be jailbroken to put XBMC on it. You're better off buying an Android stick loaded with XBMC, or even put XBMC on your lap lap, PC or Mac.

I've read bits about Apple TV on here before.
I am sure some wise experienced head will come to my aid on this board. I am in the States visiting friends and last Saturday through the miracle of the Internet was able to watch the whole S**** game on my iPad using Vipbox via the Puffin browser. It was superb quality with hardly any buffering and probably better than I would have experienced at home in London!
My pal who I'm visiting told me that he had Apple tv (belatedly) so I thought "right, we'll watch MOTD later on the TV screen".
I managed to get MOTD up live, via Cricfree (the iPlayer is not available outside UK) but when switching on AirPlay on the iPad to connect to the Apple TV box, all I could get on the TV was the sound - no picture. Later tried Sky Sports - same result. Which brought me to the conclusion that to protect subscriptions, Apple tv is probably deliberately disabled from projecting vision. Makes sense to me. But can anybody categorically confirm that?
More importantly, anyone know of a workaround?!
I should add of course that Apple TV works fine with YouTube- sound and vision. I think it's in just showing TV programs that it is limited.

Many thanks for your input.Originally Posted by Banc Blue wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 17:30
Ive recently picked up the amazon fire tv box. Not sure about oitside the uk if you could download a vpn to show you as a uk viewer and get iplayer live. But it does allow easy downloading of xbmc for all That provides.
Also if you are on your laptop outside uk and want iplayer then get the hola add on for chrome browser browser, so it lets you show up as uk or usa address which is good for lots of things.
Or look on eBay for a fully loaded android XBMC, should have everything you need on.Originally Posted by jackrabbit wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 17:42
I have an Apple TV box - the version that cannot be jailbroken.
It was given to me.
I soon realised why .. Apple TV itself is pretty dire..
Android box all the way as you can run any app and Kodi (XBMC).
Doesn't have to be android, XBMC works on any OS.Originally Posted by â€* wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 21:17
Yes, but I find Android apps more useful than Kodi (XBMC)Originally Posted by Banc Blue wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 21:23
Like anything crApple it'll only do what they want you to do with it. I use my PC, tablet or mobile and a Chromecast to stream and it works really well.Originally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 20:32
On eBay you can get a Xbmc box for smart tv, will I be able to get football / sports on there?
Yes just make sure the one you get is fully loaded.Originally Posted by NP25 Bluebird wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 21:58
Thanks, how do you know of its fully loaded?Originally Posted by Banc Blue wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 22:35
Thanks for that Banc Blue. I will ensure I get Apple TV2 when I do get around to purchasing it. I've learned quite a lot about this topic from this interesting interchange. Much obliged.Originally Posted by Banc Blue wrote on Mon, 06 April 2015 20:05
Apple TV with my IPad and Cartoon HD App (wirelessly via Airplay) is excellent.
Yesterday I watched Gone Girl, the Theory of Everything and Fury from Cartoon HD all for free and didn't have to connect anything to my TV and the quality was excellent.
I can view all my photos and music videos as well as anything on the internet I care to view on my IPad ..nudge, nudge, wink, wink.
Don't forget you can install PLEX on Apple tv! Just another option guys!
You can't buy a new Apple TV2, but there's plenty of them for sale on eBay, I wouldn't bother getting a 2nd one, just get an android stick fully loaded. Someone ask further up the thread how do you know if it's fully loaded, the seller would state it's fully loaded. So you've got nothing to do except plug and play.Originally Posted by jackrabbit wrote on Wed, 08 April 2015 16:08

Careful! I don't think you can install anything at all on the Apple TV version 3 that I have. I think it is the version currently on sale, though thankfully I didn't pay for it.Originally Posted by paphos is blue wrote on Wed, 08 April 2015 18:33
Yes you're right, that's why the earlier versions go for a lot more more than brand new ones.Originally Posted by Vimana. wrote on Wed, 08 April 2015 21:26
Plex can be installed on ATV3.Originally Posted by Banc Blue wrote on Wed, 08 April 2015 21:57
