Tbf to leave the ECHR is stupid. Lotta time wasted to reform and get this Bill of Rights. No wonder even the Tories are against this.

I do believe in RIGHTS and responsibilities. The responsibility is to follow the law and the you'll have rights. It can't be just responsibilities.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone" that's not the case any more.

Re: Threat to exit human rights convention must be dropped, Tories tell Cameron

The European Convention on Human Rights covers the 47 member states of the Council of Europe which the UK was a founding member of in 1949. Even prior to the UK instigating domestic legislation to cover the ECHR - The Human Rights Act, 1998 - it was still covered by the convention, the forerunner of which - The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms - was instigated in 1953.

It would be very difficult to "get out" of the ECHR, and the public have been hoodwinked into thinking it is the cause of all the wrongs in the UK.

Whenever anyone says they want to get rid of the ECHR, I ask them exactly which of their rights are they happy to get rid of?

    The right to life?
    The right to marry?
    The right to an education?
    The right to religious freedom?
    The right to privacy?
The right not to be tortured?
The right to a fair trial?
    The right to own property?
    The right to free elections?
    The right to free speech?
    The right to free association?
The right not to be discriminated against?
The right to freely move within your country?
The right not to be executed by the state?

I'm not sure I want to get rid of any of them.
