Sadly, I suspect that this will be a shorter thread than what it really deserves given his place in rock/prog history. I had the privilege of seeing him live not only in ELP but also in The Nice. An extremely accomplished keyboard player and musician.

The title of the second album of The Nice "Ars Longa Vita Brevis" is very appropriate here. His music will live on.

This is confirmed.

Apparently he cancelled a tour in 2010 as had an "abnormal growth" in his colon.

Possibly making 2+2=5, I suspect he may have been told he has terminal cancer, and decided to go on his own terms.
Just my speculation.

Sad. Saw Nice in Cardiff (Top Rank?) 1969. He done the thing with the knives in the keyboard for America. Can still remember that clearly. ( And he had a keyboard that he strapped over his shoulder like a guitar )
