    Wow.
I just logged on to see the score. Wasnt expecting to see a result! Reminded me of one of England's recent tests in India.

Was it just me, or did anyone else not want to get to excited even when chasing 16. There was a little voice in the back of my head reminding me that this was glamorgan doing the chasing 🤣. I think it was 12-0 when I finally felt we were going to win!

If we can beat Lancs next week we are right in contention at the top

    Re: GLAMMY

I was confident of chasing 16 .... anything over 50 though and I would have been nervous ..... I remember watching them get bowled out for 31 at Cardiff (v Middlesex) ironically in the championship winning season in 1997

    Re: GLAMMY

I mentioned after the Northants game that maybe it's the old story of Glammy being able to get runs but struggling to bowl sides out twice.

I guess the best way to quash that notion is to take twenty wickets the very next game.
    Inside two days too!

Well done to "old man" Hogan, leading from the front.
Great support from van der gugten and Lloyd also.

I’m sure someone on here will have the answer instantly, but when did Glam win by 10 wickets?

    Re: GLAMMY

I’ve been checking through my old Wisdens and it was Northants (who we also beat by an innings in 2019) at home in 2015. There was a great stat someone contacted the commentators about today - James Harris has played in the last three Glamorgan victories in two days spread over a period of thirteen years.

Yeah that’s a great stat. Good to see him chipping in at the end. I presume that’s his two week loan over.
Shame Joe Cooke couldn’t get a run in the second innings. Pleasing to see some home grown players doing so well this season especially Lloyd and Carlson.

I think it was Nick Webb who mentioned that Harris' loan was for an "initial two weeks" during the commentary, so maybe there's a something in place for Glamorgan to extend it if they want to. However, with Douthwaite to come back and Neser to come in, do we need to do that if the latter turns out to be as good as his record of recently being selected in Australian test squads suggests he is? I've always thought Harris' tendency to be expensive was down to him being a pitch it up and tempt the drive type bowler, but, based on what I've seen of his bowling in the past two games, he seems to have gone back quite a lot - a lot of it was on the short side and on both sides of the wicket. If we were to keep Harris longer, I'd be looking to use him a bit higher up the batting order because I've always thought he had the technique to play as a batting all rounder - he's an orthodox batsman who I feel could have made a decent opener in another life, but it's probably too late to think of him doing that now.

Joe Cooke scored what looks like a very good hundred for the seconds (who have won their first two matches at Somerset and Lancashire) in their last match - the pitch was clearly doing a lot because Lancashire were bowled out for 64 in their second innings and so Cooke's innings was instrumental in setting up another ten wicket win. Clearly, Maynard and co were impressed, because they chose to drop Selman after he finally scored a few runs and, having done so, I think they have to give Cooke a few games to establish himself - at least his not out nought yesterday meant he didn't bag a pair.

Talking of pairs, I'm sure David Lloyd got two ducks on his debut for us against Yorkshire and then followed it up with another one in his next innings against Kent, so it was somehow appropriate that he should have the best game of his career in four day cricket so far against Kent. I agree with the earlier comment about his bowling being improved this season and, so far at least, he's making a better job of opening in the longer game than I thought he would (I thought he'd be too ,loose) - at the moment, he looks like a very good county all rounder who might just possibly become a contender for higher honours.

That's always assuming that the England selectors know how to find their way to Cardiff because there's no evidence that they do based on recent years - although, to be fair, there's been no reason why they would need to for a good few seasons! However, if they stick to the criteria of looking for young batsmen making an impression in the county game as their policy for A tours, then Kiran Carlson's name surely will have come up in conversations this season - although he seems to have been around a good few years, he's still only twenty two.

Yep don’t see a need for Harris to stay with Neser ready and Douthwaite likely to be fit to return. Douthwaite has chipped in well this season. Plus Hogan will have had a bit longer to rest before Lancs and has to play based upon his excellent form.
Harris’s bowling has been a bit disappointing although he wasn’t helped with such a docile pitch last week.He has often scored runs lower down the order. I see him as a 7 but no higher than that.

Lloyd is doing very well. He does play his shots but it’s just as well because Selman doesn’t. Cooke will surely start v Lancs as one failure isn’t a sensible judgement of his ability. Also promising signs with the seconds doing so well.

I do think Carlson may have been affected by his college studies because he is flying now.His form was awful last season but if he carries on like this the selectors will need to take a look at him. High time a Glammy player represented England. It’s been too long.

I agree with the last two posts. Genuine positive signs with this squad and there’s nothing like a win to build confidence. I’m looking forward to Neser playing. Really pleased for David Lloyd, he looks a bit fitter this season and this may have helped him especially with his bowling. I think he will make a good opener. Fingers crossed Carlson’s form continues, as you say it’s high time a Glamorgan player represented England and he (or Lloyd) may be the man. They will go to Lancs on Thursday full of confidence.

For the first time in a few years, picking a Glamorgan team is not easy because we have good options. I was going to reply to Pearcey saying I’d like to see Chris Cooke batting at seven like most wicket keeper batsmen do these days, so I’d put Harris at six if he’s staying with us, but that would be very harsh on Callum Taylor who scored a run a ball century on his debut last season and batted a very long time against Sussex thereby showing he can play as the situation demands. As a bowler, Taylor doesn’t look like he will bowl a side out, but he took wickets at Headingley a few weeks back while Dom Bess didn’t and he seems to have a fair amount of control to his bowling.

Spin bowling has looked a real weakness of ours in recent years, but Labuschagne took wickets for us last time he was here and deserves to be called more than an occasional bowler, while Prem Sisodya did really well last season in T20 cricket especially and it would be great to see him carry some of that form into the four day game.

I’ve just looked up Michael Neser’s figures and he averages 25 with both bat and ball in Sheffield Shield cricket which is generally regarded to be better than English domestic four day stuff, so, potentially, he will certainly improve us with the ball while also ensuring that we will nearly always be able to put out a side which bats down to about number ten.

I’d have Cooke ahead of Harris in the batting order. I have always rated Cooke as a batsman.

I do as well (he's certainly good enough to get into the team as a specialist batsman), but I was thinking in terms of him captaining, keeping wicket and often having little time to have a bit of a rest with our suspect top order batting - although you'd like to think that having Labuschagne back will make a difference as far as the last of those goes.

nice to get back on the field myself today for ton pentre cc, bit cold but the rain stayed away and a 10 wicket win ... just like Glamorgan yesterday

There isn't another good enough batsman in the squad to justify pushing Cooke down as low as 7. He is too good a batsman to have to feel forced to score quickly as he's batting with the lower order.

As well as Lloyd has done as opener, I think Glamorgan are two openers short of being a decent team. Lloyd batting at 7 as the fifth bowling option with Neser at 8 would represent good depth. Hopefully one of the spinners will kick on - Taylor hasn't been great, but Salter has been one of the better second eleven players this season.

Saturday looks a wash out and there’s a chance of showers today and Sunday - I suppose it’s not too bad a game to get a rain affected draw from (as long as Anderson isn’t in test match mode).

Glamorgan 61-1 after a shortened first session having won the toss and batted.

So much better than that offered at Sophia Gardens for the Kent match.

Now 117-3 with Lloyd out. Difficult to see anything other than a draw. Saturday looks a way out and Sunday may be interrupted.
