Glad they did better against Durham and Essex in the One Day Cup semi final and final.

    Re: GLAMMY

Maynard gave them a free pass after the Essex hammering. Not this time please. It hasn’t been a contest.

I had been thinking of driving down for the last home game but based on recent performances don't think i'll bother. Glam CCC is a bit like a pub serving flat beer. Upper management definitely carry the can and the lack of activity to shake things up is very unprofessional. Who wants to go and watch a team getting permanently battered?

We won a National tournament a couple of weeks ago and it’s beginning to look like our season effectively ended that day. While that shouldn’t really happen, I can understand it in a way, because, while the current four day format is working well for the top six sides, there is little riding on the Second and Third tiers. Glamorgan were competitive in the first phase of the Championship and we did well to finish third in a group where we were seeded to come fifth I believe - we may not be finishing it well, but I think this has been Glamorgan’s best season for a few years.

The four day performances were excellent but these last two games have been dreadful.Players like Lloyd, Selman, Cooke, Carlson etc need to be consistent over a full season. Overall a good season but important to do much better in the last two games.

Managed to take it to the 4th day today. But avoiding another defeat by an innings still looks beyond us.

Felt very sorry for Douthwaite, who batted against his natural instincts and looked set to be rewarded with a first hundred for Glamorgan when his patience snapped at 96. I agree that it looks like an innings defeat sometime in the morning session now, but, hopefully, not before Salter gets to a hundred.

Douthwaite and Salter's partnership lasted longer in terms of overs than the rest of the batting that had come before them put together - Rutherford apart, it's been another poor showing by the so called specialist batsmen.

Glamorgan lose … like Douthwaite shame Salter didn’t get a hundred (out for 90)

At least they, or four of their batsmen to be precise (Van Der Guigten got a useful not out), made a game of it in the second innings.

Nice to see David Lloyd back in the runs, he's 60 not out in Glamorgan's 107-0 at lunch after being put in by Gloucestershire - too early to say yet, but this looks a bit like one of those very high scoring draws you get at Cardiff every now and then.

Something to ponder regarding batting tactics. The Glamorgan pair last night spent a good half hour batting for the morning as it were. Barely scored a run. Today they have lost 2 wickets already to fresh bowlers when they could have been tonking last night. It’s pretty brainless isn’t it?

It was an odd day all round yesterday with no wickets falling in the first and third sessions and six in the second one.

Gloucestershire 20-0 in reply to Glamorgan's 309 and looking pretty comfortable in what seem to be more bowler friendly conditions than yesterday.

    Re: GLAMMY

Couple of fine catches by Chris Cooke that are worth a look at on the stream on the club website - Gloucestershire 92-2.

    Re: GLAMMY

Fair play two excellent catches by Cooke
Andrew Salter takes his 100th first class wicket closely followed by his 101st - Glos currently 185 for 4

I was listening to the cricket on 5 Lixe Extra just now and one of the commentators said she was all cricketed out by now, to which the other commentator said that’s because you’ve won a trophy. I think Glamorgan were cricketed out as soon as they took the last Durham wicket in the Final - today they allowed the last two Gloucestershire wickets to put on about 110 and they’re 57-6 in their second innings and looking at another innings defeat.

I thought they started well, but then collapsed. 57-6 after letting them get 110 at the tail is pathetic by any standards.

this collection of players needs a proverbial up the rear as they seem comfortable with losing. would they class themselves as professionals?

This may well be the third successive innings defeat. That simply should not be seen as acceptable. Maynard should be hammering them for this.

    Another embarrassing non-performance. So inconsistent.

I caught this as well and thought exactly the same TOBW. After a good start in the championship, that didn’t see us far off qualifying for the top division (mercifully, in this nick), the performances in this final quarter’s worth of games have been truly woeful. They are doing their best to take the shine off the one day cup victory and what was a very decent 4-day campaign till September!

Essex have been the best four day side in the country in the years before this season and are still a very good team, Gloucestershire were unlucky not to make it through to the top group after leading their table for so long and I think Durham would have got promoted this season under the two Division system that was around pre pandemic, so we've played some sides that player for player are better than us in these three games.

However, back in the spring and early summer, we were unbeaten in four matches with Yorkshire and Lancashire (we beat the latter in one of them) and thrashed a Kent side that were doing well in Division One in 2019. More than that, we were competitive in all of the early matches played before Labuschagne and Neser arrived.

Therefore the players, who have Rutherford as an improvement on Balbernie now, have shown that they are a lot better than their form during September has suggested. I have tended to be more sympathetic than some in this thread about what's happened since the Final. but yesterday was hard to take - they are still being paid a decent wage to do something which few get the chance to do and they really do need to show a bit more in the season ender against Surrey.

Glamorgan 213-2 coming up to tea on the first day of their match at the Oval against Surrey - David LLoyd 91 not out.

    Cue a spectacular collapse.

    Re: GLAMMY

Relief to see some of the top order getting runs under the belt following the chastening last few games, although you really should expect it given the conditions (appreciating its Glamorgan we’re talking about…).

Took the day off and it’s been a very pleasant day in the sun with a couple beers at the Oval. Strangely enough I’ve a works thing here on Friday, so hope it goes the distance.
