Exciting to watch and nearly got in by the back door. the last over of the Kent game was pretty good as well.

As for The Hundred that's been a huge flop certainly as far as Welsh Fire which has zip to do with Wales, Glammy etc. and has zero appeal. Can't understand why anyone bothered rocking up for that.

I'm now seeing about getting along to Lords in Sept for the CC game v Middlesex.

Strange old campaign, considering how close we ended up qualifying for the knockouts, very lopsided performances.
I know all sides lost players to the Hundred, but we have Hogan or Van Der Gugten available and I reckon we qualify.

Whilst the shorter games in theory could mean closer more exciting games, in reality in the majority of games it seems that the result is often decided sooner.
The longer the format there's more chance of a team recovering a losing position.

    Re: GLAMMY

Genuinely thought we had a sniff at qualifying, very exciting last round of games.

Campaign wise , it's been nice to see the likes of Ingram and Northeast play big innings and for Kiran Carlson to regain some form with the bat. Prem has shown he can do a job in a longer form of the game. The fact that Carlson has started bowling again has been almost revelationary, he could be a big weapon for us on turning pitches for our September games. Jamie McIlroy has looked very good, hopefully moved himself above weighell and Harris in the bowling pecking order. Slightly disappointed with the returns from Douthwaite and Joe Cooke, was really hoping that 1 or both of them would really kick on this year

    Re: GLAMMY

We were lucky to win that one. Had Cox showed a bit more earlier Worcs could have won. However, overall it was a good result but the rules of qualification baffle me.

Re: the 100. Misgivings about the format etc aside, it’s a shame the Welsh Fire set up has so far been particularly poor. Many a living being stolen for good money. Yesterday felt a real nadir in the short life of the franchise.

If I were a Gloucester or Somerset supporter and cared enough I’d definitely follow the Southern Brave instead. To be honest, the counties linked to each franchise seems fairly meaningless to me. Northants linked to London and Lancs the only county linked to Manchester, for example.
Not sure Monday will be a nadir I’m afraid - the women’s team have just been embarrassed by a London side that had lost every game before this one.

The men have been humiliated in every game they’ve played - maybe todays their day, but, for now, it’s played nine, lost nine for the Welsh franchise and, realistically, I think they have to start praying for rain if they want to avoid a whitewash.

I think a rebrand to Welsh Dire might be needed ?

    Re: GLAMMY

How have they managed to get so many clueless players. Just watching du plooy tee off , then completely disrupts his own momentum by wandering across his stumps constantly, cue 4 balls where he gets nothing away. The players they have aren't great, but they're playing a lot worse than they actually are. Just a real clueless joke side

Middle order gave it a go but top order batsmen just haven't delivered all through the tournament

Actually, that was probably their best performance of the season, but, in saying that, they never looked like winning and, in a way, the pressure was off the later batsmen because they were never going to chase down that total after getting off to such a slow start. Joe Clarke is a far, far better player than he's showed for the Welsh Fire, but he's not coped with the pressure of being such a big money signing and that price tag has, I feel, meant he could not be dropped even though his performances have probably merited it (in saying that, there's a case for saying every specialist batsman in the team should be dropped with the exception of Duckett - and he's not been that good). If you're not going to drop Clarke, I think it's time for him to move down the order and mad as it may seem in this format, they may as well put an out and out pinch hitter (Critchley?) in as an opener because the first power play is killing them at the moment.

How the hell are South Africa 2/1 to beat England this week. One of the bets of the year for me. Batting lineup that edges England's and a bowling attack that absolutely sh*ts all over them. Good weather forecast for all 5 Days. In my opinion that's a bet to get steaming right into

Even when England were 100-5 in the first innings of the first Test England were still Evens to win it. SA were 10/11.
No dead certs with England cricket at the moment.

    Re: GLAMMY

Still think England will need a lead of at least a hundred going into the third innings.

    Re: GLAMMY

Watched a bit of the 6ixty last night,. The new 10 over tournament in the west indies. Quite interesting as they have a few tweaks.

First 5 overs bowled from one end, next 5 from the other end, batting team choose which end they start from. Didn't make a noticeable impact, but could provide a bit of tactical thinking in terms of when to target the short boundary .

2 overs of power play, followed by an additional over if you hit 2 sixes in the original power play. Second power play can be taken at a time of your choosing. Can see the reasoning, but could just lead to more lopsided games. Although I suppose it does encourage attacking intent which is always good.

6 wickets and you're out:. Really liked this idea. I wonder if a cut to outs could lead to less of these crappy bits n pieces all rounders and reward genuine bowlers. Then again, in the 20 over format I think 6 wickets would be to low. Maybe 8 or 9 could work as an experiment. Even if it doesn't translate to T20, maybe we will see a day where test and the 10 over game are the 2 formats that really value pure bowlers the most.

Crowd chosen free hit:. Crowd get to choose 1 ball per innings that becomes a free hit. Not quite sure of the point myself.

Overall I found it very watchable. Was very gimmicky, but it was decent fun and could be good at winning new audiences. Despite the gimmicks it avoided the hundred style demonisation of 'regular cricket'. Not 100 percent sure obviously, but I wouldn't imagine many people walked away from that game being confused about what a 6 ball over is and wishing it was a 5 ball set instead. Even bigger bonus, that odious prick Chris Hughes was nowhere to be seen !!

Isn't that as much to do with the confidence in England from the betting public after the summer so far? Some hefty run chases and test wins that looked improbable.

Is there a separate dispensation in the rules which says that the Welsh Fire men’s team must block, miss or mishit every ball in a power play?

    Re: GLAMMY

Simon Doull and Dominic Cork on Sky excoriating on the farce that is Welsh Fire. No Welsh or Glamorgan identity, stupid selection decisions, inept coaching, players taking the money but no interest in the team and laughable batting / bowling stats.

No idea who’s in charge but The Hundred needs to take action because the people involved in this franchise are taking the p*ss.

Hales and Malan already taking the piss with the bat too.
Wonder if the franchise could be disbanded and recreatedover the channel as something like the Avon A......?

    Re: GLAMMY

Cork saying he’d be embarrassed to be playing for or coaching a team with such poor figures as the Fire (the captain Cobb has played every game and is averaging four with the bat!}.

Doull and Cork’s squad had Carlson, Douthwaite and Sisodiya in it and they said they’d try to persuade Hogan to come back. At the start of this tournament, some were saying Glamorgan had no one good enough to get in the Welsh Fire team, - after seven losses and an eighth seemingly on the way, do they still believe that?
