At tea the lead is 132 with a maximum of 33 overs left as two overs will be lost for any change of innings. Need to bat for around 17 more overs to make this safe.

In my eyes worse than a mankad
I remember Graham Gooch being given out in an Ashes test (think it was the one where Warne bowled Gatting with “the ball of the century”) when he deflected a ball that he thought was going to drop on his stumps with his hand. That was the sort of thing the law was brought in to stop I’d say, but this just looked like a reflex action done without thinking as there was no danger of the ball hitting the stumps. If it was on the village green and I was captain of the fielding team, I’d withdraw the appeal, but it’s not going to happen in professional sport.

I’d given up on Glamorgan getting anything out of the game once Carlson was out without adding to his overnight score, but Cooke’s played a great innings and Durham’s fifty extras are definitely a bonus. Still say it’s about fifty/fifty at tea - this would have been a situation made for James Harris two or three seasons ago, but his solid batting technique seems to have deserted him these days.

Glamorgan almost there, 425-7. That’s 185 in front with a maximum of eighteen overs left - Cooke and Van DerGugten have just raised the 150 stand.

Match drawn, very good performance with a seriously weakened team.

Surrey chase down 501 to beat Kent - think it’s the second highest fourth innings winning total in the history of the game.

    Re: GLAMMY

Glamorgan did well to get a draw out of that game, excellent innings from Cooke and Van der Gugten at the end

Walking (strutting?) away with the title.

Great effort by Glamorgan to save the game, thought it was going to be a procession after Carlson got out this morning. Unbeaten and within reach of promotion places still. Tight finish between Sussex and Worcester, Leicester on their way to victory at Bristol, so getting a little congested for the second spot atm.

That is an incredible chase. You’d never go into a fourth innings expecting not to be able to defend 500.

Dom Sibley doing his chances of a test recall no favours whatsoever. 140 not out off 415 balls, but held the innings together.
    Incredible chase.

I dipped in and out of the Kent v Surrey game throughout today and it all looked pretty easy for Surrey. It’s before my time, but Surrey won seven successive titles in the fifties and they’re looking so dominant at the moment that they could be on for something similar in this era.

They are arguably the biggest club on the County Circuit so, probably have the biggest playing budget

Great draw for glam. Shame they've lowered the points for them mind .

Slightly disappointed with no announcement of another overseas player. Just sent Imad Wasim a twitter pm, to see if he fancies joining his birth county for a bit of a bash! You never know

Think we need a bowler morethana batsman. There’s McIlroy to come back, but Harris went at over five an over and, based on their figures and what I saw, the two spinners you’d call specialists were outbowled by Carlson - if we can’t bring in an overseas player, we should try to get a loan player.

Glamorgan are defending the trophy they won last season today - hopefully, the game(s) will be streamed somewhere on You Tube.

watched the final and they were unlucky not to win it but some poor shot selection by the middle order messing up reverse sweeps on several occasions cost them in the end.

the first xi desperately need to strengthen the bowling attack for red and white ball.

Only saw the final over but there was plenty going on. A six, a beamer and three of our tail bowled. Needed to get Taylor on strike more but he missed his chance with the free hit and didn't get another ball.

    Re: GLAMMY

A bit off topic but I only just noticed that Finlay Bean of Yorkshire now holds the record for the highest individual score in 2nd XI cricket, he scored 441 for Yorkshire v Notts last season. That overtook a record that had stood for 25 years after Warwickshire sportingly set Somerset a target of 612 in 1997. Having reached 595-7, Somerset then collapsed to 605 all out with Marcus Trescothick run out for 322.

Labuschagne's 276 a couple of years ago is Glamorgan's record. (I assume it hasn't been broken since).

    Re: GLAMMY

Great by Timm. Provided the oomph that would have turned what looked like a 170 odd into a 190 odd score and given us a chance. Unfortunately Callum Taylor has sabotaged us from the other end and pushed us back down to 175. Beyond pathetic. I don't think I've seen Taylor hit a powerful shot at all in any of his innings. Seems to struggle to get the ball off the square

McIlroy on a hatrick. Great start

Hatzoglou and Ul Hassan are a joke. my missus with a tennis ball is more scary. professional cricketers? you're having a laugh!

    Totally agree
I think if ul Hasan was playing in the top 6(even opening) he'd be useful. Unfortunately we seem to be playing him as a bowler, a discipline at which he appears to be utterly horrendous.

    Re: GLAMMY

Don't think Ul Hassan has taken a wicket for the first team yet, but he'd be the sixth or seventh choice bowler at other sides. He's not the problem (he's done well as a batsman in the four day stuff) though, he just illustrates that our bowling is very lightweight without Neser and Hogan - injuries aren't helping, but sides are routinely scoring at ten an over plus against us lately.

    Re: GLAMMY

it's not like the Ashes has come out of the blue! someone in the Glammy management has seriously messed up to have this situation of bowler shortages which are resulting in high scores in red and white ball. no balance in the team.

Especially when you think we have a bloke in salter, who has proved himself to be a very solid T20 performer over a period of nearly 10 years. We don't have the luxury of Alleyne deciding his face doesn't fit. Absolutely criminal that he's not getting picked.

    Re: GLAMMY

Kent beat Gloucester. Not a bad result for us. Puts them level on points with us but they've played an extra game. If we beat Gloucester tomorrow it would make it very hard to qualify, and hopefully take us level on points with Hampshire(who are away to top of the league Surrey)

    Re: GLAMMY

Carlson out cheaply. Game over for Glamorgan. Another pathetic team selection, means we now have hardly any batsman in the side. Maybe Maynard should pick the side, but Alleyne should coach !
