Bluebirds revive plan for training base in the Vale
Cardiff City Football Club could finally get permission to start work on a new training ground this week.
The Bluebirds want to build the new training ground in the Vale on council-owned agricultural land south-west of Junction 34 of the M4.
The Vale Council’s planning committee will discuss the first part of the plans, which would include 15 pitches on land opposite Hensol Villas, on Thursday (July 26).
The club also wants to build a two-storey training centre in the middle of the new ground, with 123 car parking spaces, but this is subject to a separate planning application.
Vale Council officers have advised the committee to approve permission for the 15 pitches, across a 44 acre site, subject to conditions.
There have been 19 letters of objection sent to the council since the planning application was first submitted in 2013.
Concerns raised by residents include the new training ground’s proximity to neighbouring properties, potential floodlighting, flooding issues and ‘noise levels and disturbance including obscene language,’ a council report says.
Pendoylan Community Council has also raised concerns about noise and increase in traffic resulting from the development, and has objected to using the land for non-agricultural purposes.
The training centre, which will be decided on another date, would include a gym, pool, treatment rooms and dining rooms.
There would also be spectator terraces for overlook the first team pitches to the west of the training ground and for academy pitches to the east.
Plans for the new training ground were originally submitted following Cardiff City’s promotion to the Premier League in 2013.
The Bluebirds were relegated in the 2013-14 season, but won promotion back to the top flight last season.
They play their first game back in the Premier League away at Bournemouth on August 11.

I hadn't been down that way for many years, living down West, but visited a couple of weeks ago.The Red Lion was my local, I've got a photo somewhere of me captaining the darts team. Had relatives in CroesFaen. Was shocked how the whole area was so much more built up. Not sure I liked it TBH.
I still question whether it is necessary.

It only makes sense if we become a category 1 academy.
Same, by all accounts our current setup is very good, good enough for Welsh FA, WRU, Cardiff Blues, Manchester United.. but not us?
I'm guessing that it will reduce our running costs over time and will provide a further asset for the Club. It may also provide the facilities needed for a Category 1 Academy?
I don't think so, but I'm not certain about that. You may be right about running costs and I know money spent on the Academy is often exempt from FFP or whatever they're calling it this season,
IIRC, we're paying 500K per annum.
Very good news, investing in infrastructure which will be a legacy for decades for this club. Plans look very good as well. Once we complete the training ground, we can look at investing in our stadium again.
Players for today, infrastructure for tomorrow.
Perhaps that the setup currently is shared between so many teams is the reason why the club want their own base. I was of the opinion, especially during the rebrand proposal that this wasn't needed, but now a few years on am more appreciative of the investment into the community with the house(s) of sport and can see the economic benefits of private investment providing yet more great sporting facilities in South Wales.

19 letters of complaint already in ,covering ,noise ,traffic build up , and yes potential footballing language ( I kid you not ) Oh the calming world of the Vale .
Another complaint in, via the Valians saying the language may effect wildlife by
disturbing a rare type of religious seagull whose shutter patterns will effect the car washing profits of local Romanian bucket and wash businesses , and that in turn will damage Brexit and the free movement if jah people .
Great news! This is the type of investment that will set us up for years, need to strike now with the PL cash rather than wait and see
same here Paul we seem to have all these facilities at the four house of sport buildings with further facilities in the pipeline.
I saw an interview with Bellamy recently and he said we have to invest in our infrastructure with the money coming in. He said he had been struggling to get grass pitches for his lads.
that's 19 complaints total since the project was first mooted. Not against this particular council consideration. That is a small amount compared to some peojects
When the plans were first submitted to build the Thames tideway to carry all the shit out of London (Literally!) they had 9000 objections from NIMBYs trhat had to receive consideration and rebuttal, and that was after they had weeded through and sorted out all the dross.
and this was the people the project was trying to give a better quality of life to.
When do you suggest we invest in our facilities then? There are 4 football pitches maximum at the Vale, and we have to share the facilities with other teams/sports.
As mentioned, the Academy and youth teams are struggling for pitches, we should not be in that position as a Premier League team.
We need to strike when the iron is hot and we have cash and invest in our facilities.
