    Murderers get a mandatory life sentence, and the average life sentence is double what these guys got (by which I mean time actually served behind bars). If they get parole, that applies until they die.

    I would assume these won't serve the full sentence they were given.

    I was shocked at the length of the sentence that was handed down.
    Obviously old coins are worth more than child abuse and manslaughter cases.

    It's also surreal that it's a "Viking" hoard, and only existed because they stole it in the first place

    Greedy and despicable to cheat the landowner but those sentences are way too high. Should a Proceeds of Crime hearing conclude they have the hoard tucked away they'll be looking at having another sentence of 7-10 years added each. With those there's no time off for good behaviour; every day must be served in clink.

    Maybe the fact that some of the coins are “still unaccounted for” led to such a harsh sentence?
