By the way, should Blighty descend into chaos, perhaps from the coronavirus and/or economic collapse, then the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 makes for scary reading.

    It's here in full: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2004/36/contents

To summarise the most egregious aspects: the government, once it enacts emergency powers, can confiscate whatever it desires, including citizens homes (without compensation) and lawfully compel them to relocate to wherever the state deigns. Yes, absolute totalitarianism.

The Yanks have similar laws on their statute book. Americans have been wise to cling to their guns.

Can anybody tell me what 'panic' they are talking about? If they mean that people are buying toilet rolls the
they do that when the express says it is going to snow. Everything is happening as normal where I live despite there being a diagnosed case in the town and another in the town over.

My view is pretty simple, preventative measures should be more flexible and allow for the fact that this virus is pretty much risk free for most people but really bad for others.

The young are also being effected ,wonder who caused the accidents, hope it wasn't the over 70's :

Nearly 1.25 million people die in*road crashes*each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled. More than half of all road traffic deaths occur among young adults ages 15-44.

Well you can probably agree with both.

Not testing people is definitely dumb though, Trump is going to be looking round for somebody to blame soon enough.

Small sample, unverified etc but an interesting concept explored that older population crashes and immediately occupy the beds, then once younger people have 'exhausted their physiological resources' they turn up to already overcrowded under resourced hospitals.

If the oldies do crash, I'm guessing a new Brexit referendum will be called for .

Just be cautious is my only advise , it's either a virus that is spreading or it's not , it should not be a political issue , I'd hate to see someone fall due to complacency and foolish ideology

Give it time, you'll be able to find a way to blame Jeremy Corbyn and Labour for it soon.

I wonder what LoM makes of Trump making a political issue out of it at every chance:

Trump wants Americans to stay on cruise ship off the coast of California because he's worried about the f**king "numbers" doubling (looks better for him if less people on American soil are confirmed to have the virus)

I'd be interested in the details of it. Say for those who cannot go to work due to government mandated restrictions. Can/will they order private companies to pay them their full rate of pay perhaps with the state reimbursing them the cost? Or the state paying the workers directly some or all their wages? Italy could set the template for all EU states, including the UK. The costs would become staggeringly high should these lock downs proliferate elsewhere.

With the price of oil declining because of falling demand, OPEC held a meeting last Friday where it was expected members would agree to cut production to try and halt the drop by lowering supply. Russia unexpectedly refused and the oil price caved almost 10%. In response Saudi Arabia announced it will ramp up production while offering deep price discounts to damage Russia's finances, as well as its own and all other oil producers, in the hope they're forced back to the table. From what I've read the WTI oil price currently at $42 per barrel will head to as low as $20.

Below is what the Italian government decreed this morning for the Lombardy region (population 16 million) and some other areas. It seems as if most workplaces will remain open. The bars and restaurants restriction is a bit of a head scratcher, will the distance between people be enforced by busybodies using a measuring stick?

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

    ITALIAN EMERGENCY MEASURES
16 days after the beginning of the outbreak, the Italian government took decree today to take exceptional measures to contain about 16 million Italians living in 14 provinces in the north of the country, as well as restrictive measures covering the whole country. [source]

    - Lombardy region (entire region, all provinces)
    - Piedmont (provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola, and Vercelli)
    - Veneto(provinces of Padua, Treviso, and Venice)
    - Emilia Romagna (provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, and Rimini)
    - Marche (province of Pesaro Urbino)
    In the above areas:

Travel in and out of the area, as well as within the area, will only be possible in response to "duly verified professional requirements, emergency situations, or for health reasons"
People with symptoms of respiratory disease and fever of 37.5 Celsius or above are strongly encouraged to stay at home and limit social contact as much as possible, including with their doctor
    Avoid gathering
All schools and universities must be closed
All museums and places of culture will be closed
All cultural, religious or festive events are suspended
Cinemas, pubs, theaters, dance schools, game rooms, casinos, nightclubs and other similar places shall remain closed
All sporting events and competitions are suspended
Ski resorts are closed until further notice
Swimming pools, sports halls, thermal baths, cultural centers and wellness centers must suspend their activities
Bars and restaurants can remain open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. provided they respect the safety distance of at least 1 meter between customers - this provision also concerns other commercial activities
Shopping centers and department stores must remain closed on public holidays and the days preceding them
Places of worship remain open, provided that the safety distance of at least 1 meter is respected, but religious ceremonies (marriage, baptism) are prohibited until further notice
    National restrictions
As in the north of the country, cinemas, theaters, museums, pubs, game rooms, dance schools, discos and other similar places will be closed
Sports competitions are suspended with some exceptions

When Bill Gates has the Vaccine,
Would you take it if it was advised by WHO/ Governments that everyone should be immunised etc.?
although at an age where FLU jabs are kinda recommended, I don't have them but it's because there
is advice not to have it if you have suffered from Guillan-Barre syndrome which I did when 24 years young.
