    Re: Coronavirus update

I don't think the virus will ever be over. It's like the flu. You can vaccinate against it but still people get it and die from it.

Somehow we are going to have to live it providing mortality rates can be kept to acceptable levels whatever figure that might be.

    Re: Coronavirus update

Like the flu, this virus will have no vaccine only something to hopefully suppress it.
So we need to accept this and all learn to live with it, be sensible adhere to the 2 metre rule, masks the jury is out if they actually do anything 🤔
Protect the vulnerable and elderly but we cannot expect them to shield indefinitely and be locked away. So I would have supermarket's, shop's and DIY stores at least two days a week be for the people who need to shield to get out and do their shopping, have a cup of tea in a cafe something to eat and feel relatively safe while the rest of us respect and not be selfish aragont #$%$#........
We need to start learning to live with this virus.

The one just around the corner is already here and you get it at Boots for £180 a test. Over 95% accurate

Pleased to see that the army being called upon to aid distribution of it for the NHS and of course it will be free. Not saying it will be a game changer but to be able to be tested minutes ahead of seeing relatives in a nursing home or similar could make a big difference to people with results in 15 minutes.

Hope we get it here in Wales

There is a Flu vaccine and it's very effective most years

    Re: Coronavirus update

No there is no vaccine they estimate what strength the strain is going to be and inject you with the strain to build antibodies.

    Re: Coronavirus update

Why would you need the jab yearly?

An injection that contains weakened or killed strains of a virus to enable your body to develop an immunity to it is called a vaccine.

Most flu vaccines are quadrivalent, that is they contain weakened or killed virus from the four most commonly strains of flu around at the time

    vaccine

    /ˈvaksiːn,ˈvaksɪn/

    noun

a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.

    "there is no*vaccine against*the virus"

Because the virus mutates and the vaccine that protects one year against the prevalent may not give protection for next.
Each year the manufacturers work ahead of time to produce vaccines to protect against relevant strains for that year.

Between the battle of google searches between the 2 of u.

If we can get something as effective against this virus as against flu then maybe we will be closer to a normal life whatever you call it.

Thats more or less what I just said and there is a flu vaccine, although currently there isn't a vaccine against Covid 19.

Not a google search from me as I used to work for a company that made lots of vaccines and is currently a front runner with research for a Covid vaccine

No flu is not a virus. Flu is an unpleasant respiratory disease that can make people very ill. These symptoms are the response and reaction of a person's body when they are infected with a specific type of virus. The name of the virus is not flu
