Thread: How long do you think before normal holidays are allowed to resume?

Re: How long do you think before normal holidays are allowed to resume?

Like many, I’ve flights to Italy booked in June, after the tournament’s postponement I initially thought, never mind, if the lockdowns and virus situation had been over we’d have still gone and had a few days in Rome anyway. The more I think about it now I’m leaning towards hoping the airline cancel and the whole trip is off. Have other holidays booked for this year as well, one in May, which is odds on to be cancelled, and others towards the end of the year. My thinking is to assume they’ll be cancelled but if by some miracle things get back to some semblance of normality it’ll be a bonus. Doubt if we’ll be travelling anywhere this year is my honest feeling.

Wrong. I live in a holiday area and we don't want people to buy second homes as they price locals out of the market. Back in 2016 a referendum in St Ives ended with a ban on the sale of new-build flats and houses to second home buyers; a legal challenge later in the year failed, prompting a series of other referendum votes with similar results in some other west country locations.

I touched on that in a post that followed the post you quoted

Would anyone on here want to take a flight this year? Breeding ground for germs.

I don't care , I want to stay home in the safety of my known surroundings, is the best option , for at least a year

This disease will be around for another 12-18 months minimum so ill be looking at a couple of years before even thinking of booking anything.

The local hospital at withybush has almost closed and now has now a&e or maternity ward I think.....
Withybush A and E is still there and there is still a midwife led maternity unit.

There are as far as I am aware no plans to close hospital although there are plans to close A and E in a few years time when a new hospital is built near St Clears

    My thoughts exactly!
I was thinking of a cruise (first time) but I'll let a full season go without incident before I look into booking.

I would expect there to be some bloody good offers for cruises when they start up again. You might be the only ones on the ship!

Can you imagine what it is like on a nuclear submarine if just one person is diagnosed with the virus?

I am of in my camper to walk the mountains in Scotland the minute they relax travel .

Planes are indeed a breeding ground for germs.

Naomi Campbell was ridiculed recently for decontaminating her first class compartment thoroughly before taking her seat on a plane

Someone did a test on a similar compartment and it was indeed full of germs..

I wanted something old , but something that could do 80mph ..I mean 70 ... and reliably take me anywhere in Europe.

Had a bob the builder T4 from my mate who lives in jersey, relatively low miles. 1.9 td . Did a few engine mods , opened the pump , adjusted the turbo for max boost and fitted an intercooler .
Had it painted in stunning Renault cherry red .
Fitted 18 inch high end alloys with low profiles , lowered the suspension.
RIB rock and roll bed covered in cream and red leather to match the two captain chairs in the front. door cards covered in red leather .
Full camper conversion done by a company up in Pontpool. including lining the roof , fitting blinds in all the rear windows , had windows fitted all the way round and tinted.
Fitted electric windows and central locking
    ebersbacher night heater.
Its a pretty little thing , did 2 weeks in Scotland in it last year climbing munros , 2 weeks in France cycling and drinking wine...

I bet you are glad you asked

It seems to me that every time I fly long haul I get a cough or some other symptoms which I attribute to the way that air is circulated in the planes cabin.

Your point hits the issue on the nose for me. I will wait to understand what the airlines are doing about cleaning up the air supply or I’ll buy a respirator before flying again.

    Sounds great.

I missed out on a T4 that my boss was selling. It had been painted in aubergine, which looked really nice. The inside had been converted to a high spec by a specialist company. It had 18'' alloy wheels too.
My boss only used it the once and found it too small for him and his missus. They were both used to a big American slide out sides motorhome, but he was unable to drive it due to loss of his HGV license on medical grounds. He since bought another slide out sides one that can be driven on a 7.5t license.
The worse thing about missing out on that T4 is that he only wanted £4500 for it. I could have got it a little cheaper I'd like to think. I'm still kicking myself to this day

You did miss out … if it was nice that was cheap...are you still in the market? I might know of one. Not mine , I value mine at 20k but it isn't for sale.
They are a bit small, I use an awning with mine. I would only have the bed if I was doing it again. Most people don't cook or use them for washing up . I have never cooked in mine .

Yeah, I tend (in my ignorance, I'm no expert) to agree. I'd say you will be OK to go on hols in UK or IE first, maybe Aug/Sept, but until a vaccine is widely available (mid to late 2021?) some countries may have quarantine rules for new arrivals that effectively rule out holiday visits. Mentally, I find it useful to plan for the worst, otherwise I'll be repeatedly disappointed. And would you want to go on a holiday where you could catch it? Will your travel insurance cover you?

Not really looking for another one Jim, unless its like the one I missed out on which isn't going to happen.
I would have used it as a daily and got rid of my car. I'd struggle with a modern diesel due to the dpf, as I only do short trips ie work and back and grub shopping on Saturdays, both of which are only a mile away.

When, eventually, a vaccine is available perhaps the proof that you’ve had a vaccination can be added to your passport electronically, no proof, no travel.

I almost sold my 2009 T5 a few months back, had it fully done at new wave conversions in pontyclun a few years back. Think I’ll be off with the kids to some random spots a lot this summer.....which luckily is all we ever planned after two trips to Florida in the last 2 years.

    Why for the oldies?

Older people are not specially being asked to self isolate because they are most likeyl to be contageous, but because all the other idiots who aren't complying may be and its the oldies who are most at risk. But I don't see why a vaccine would help that group more than any other.
