Pubs You Only Went In Once For A Reason

As a youth me and some mates went for a drive around the city and somehow ended up at the Big Windsor, we popped in for a quick one, but some of the locals didn't like us being there, in their pub. When I say they didn't like us being there, I mean we weren't too keen on returning at any time in the future.

I’ve heard The Cornwall may not reopen.

I recall the first time I went in the Bulldog. I thought everyone in there was from a Mute coach trip! The silence as deafening.

Went to the Custom House once when I had a season playing for Rumney Rangers in the Cardiff Combination. Cardiff Dracs used it as their post match clubhouse. Interesting place even at 5.30 on a Saturday afternoon. One of the really friendly ladies who frequented the place asked one of our lads if he was interested in some business and he told us "How did she know I was a decorator"?

O once had to go in the Cardiff Arms in Splott to give a mate his wages, a relative of Billy Boston. When I walked in I couldn't see him but everyone was looking at me and I had a few hundred quid in my pocket. I asked the barman if he had been in and once I mentioned his name the place relaxed a bit.

The Foresters in Canton. The Madhouse.

My brother in law asked me to meet him there before going to game.

I walked in , the place went silent, I went to the bar and ordered a pint. I stood looking at bottle labels trying not to catch anybody’s eye.

I gave up and waited for him outside.

The place gave me the heebiejeebies

We went to the Canton Cross instead.

Never went in there again and I wouldn’t if you paid me

Never dared enter the Dusty Forge. Had no problem in the pub down by the bridge though. (is that still Ely or Fairwater?) Same for the Vic and the Windsor in Barry. Was a regular in the Vic for a while. Had to mind your Ps & Qs though. And keep your head down.

It actually wasn't that bad. If you behaved yourself no one bother you.

Another one that's gone but only in the last year or so. Now a block of flats. It was built as a show pub when they demolished the old houses on the square.

True the girls were always performing on the street outside and accosting 'innocent' passers by, but they never caused grief inside because they were tolerated in there and it was about the only place they were.

Wasn't one of the bars in The Windsor called 'The Zoo'? I assume that wasn't for a nice reason
