Thread: So England is re-opening

  1. #1

    So England is re-opening

Pubs, restaurants, hairdressers, campsites, holiday parks, hotels, B&B’s etc

    2m rule halved.

Surely now Wales will have to all in to match England. If they remove the 5m local rule and nothing else then Wales is going to pile into England and leave the local economy behind

Wales has the lowest infection rate in the country, why are you saying we need to abandon that? I see the Government didn't respond on whether their latest moves were in agreeance with SAGE. They also didn't provide any firm rules on Social distancing - it seems to be "2m if you can, but more than 1m if you can't". Sounds an awful lot like his previous statement "Go to work, but don't use public transport. Use Public transport only if you have to".

..so when would you abandon it - when it's at it's highest ?

But its been pointed out by scientists that as the total number of infections/deaths comes down then the R rate is less informative because if the rate goes from 30 to 100 it looks like a huge spike and an infection rate of 1 ->3 but in fact it could be 1 meat plant in Anglesey, for example.
Basically as total death numbers drop the R rate has to be calculated more locally and not broad brush.

Not at all, I am merely pointing out that with the R rate moving upwards in certain parts of England whilst in Scotland and Wales the R rate is still being dampened down then maybe it would be unwise to follow the political motives being displayed by Johnson. The scientists are hardly backing him at the moment, are they? Oh yeah, I forgot, you are "skeptical" meaning that all scientists that disagree with you are to be disbelieved.

Drippy Drakeford is a fkn 🤡. It's purely political the decisions he makes. The sooner a 2nd referendum to scrap WAG the better.

Why wouldn't Johnson comment on whether his easing of the lockdown has the backing of SAGE?

Its time to get back to a "normal life" now, we cannot moan about the economy and the damage this is doing whilst sat at home getting paid for nothing

Ah ok, I was just confused about the "sat at home getting paid for nothing" comment. I guess that is aimed at people who are actually sat at home doing nothing?

I know a few like that who are actually continuing to claim furlough money.

I'm not so sure. Through necessity, I think an awful lot of people have changed their habits in terms of working, shopping and socialising. I think we'll see a relatively slow return to normality, which will help to keep the virus under control for now. Of course, the winter months may be a different story.

And apparently the virus doesn't like the hot weather so we might not get a second wave until it gets colder, so in Scotland that will be July.

I think we'll be ok over next couple of months, with most people, in Wales certainly, being sensible. With schools going back and colder weather I think it inevitable that more cases will reoccur. Hopefully it will not be on the scale we have seen, but I'm not holding my breath.
