    Dullards in Fast Cars

No, not the name of a new band, but an observation that there seems to be more of these than ever now.

You have three types, the 'youngsters' that like to hang around supermarket car parks in their 'hair dressers cars' with lowered suspension, huge sound systems and exaggerated exhaust noise.

The businessman who can often be a youngster, driving his first car, but got a good job with an A4, beamer or Merc as his company car.

Or the other one that I came across last night driving from Cowbridge to Pontyclun, the absolute idiot without a care in the world for his or his passengers safety or more importantly sensible road users. I witnessed two cars (obviously racing) overtake me doing at least 100 mile an hour (hard to believe, I know, on that road). The second overtook on the brow of a hill and if anything was coming the other way, everybody without any doubt would have been killed.

It frightens me to think that my kids and wife are out there driving their cars sensibly and could be instantly wiped out by such a selfish brainless dullard.

Is road use and road users getting worse?

I remember that the older generation were saying that the country was going to the dogs when I was a kid. It's just what old people say

    A quote from Aristotle:
"They [Young People] have exalted notions, because they have not been humbled by life or learned its necessary limitations; moreover, their hopeful disposition makes them think themselves equal to great things -- and that means having exalted notions. They would always rather do noble deeds than useful ones: Their lives are regulated more by moral feeling than by reasoning -- all their mistakes are in the direction of doing things excessively and vehemently. They overdo everything -- they love too much, hate too much, and the same with everything else."

My dad used to go to the dogs, but they've shut the track years ago.

I don’t think it’s getting worse, the drivers you’ve described have always been around over the past 20/30 years. More people tend to have cars aswell these days, a family of 4 with grown up kids just passed their tests could possibly have 4 cars in the household. I passed my test about 25years ago and whilst learning to drive (I’d have been in sixth form I think) there were still the crazy chav boy racers in their Novas and Escort GTI’s tearing around back then. Just society I’m afraid. It is scary though when your involved in something like that, fools racing each other that have no concern for other motorists. Should carry a custodial in the clink now for the way they behave.

I used to drive that road regularly in the 90s and making 65-70 for what was probably a few seconds before slamming on the anchors was as good as it got.
    I’ve grown up now.

I used to love starting a Saturday night at the Arms Park, at the dogs, before going “dog” hunting around town
