    another fishing report

river ely just outside St Fagans

    Ten foot Shakespeare spinning rod

    Shimano catana fixed spool reel

    6 pound mainline

    Abu droppen 6g spinner

Looking for trout , perch chub or even a small pike

Three bloody hours , one small perch

Loads of fish in there though , many too small to attack spinner as I brought it in , could see shoals of them

    One day I shall prevail

Is your rod and tackle usually this fruitless?

Good, honest account. That's the thing I found with fishing - you go well prepared, with all the right tackle, in a river you know that has a lot of fish and.... nothing!

Other days they seem to be throwing themselves onto your hook.

One of my first introductions to fishing was spinning from the rocks at Oxwich. Beautiful summer's day, fresh air, great environment and the hours just flew by. I didn't catch anything, but it didn't seem to matter.

I fished the river Ely hell of a lot in that area as a child with my old man in the 70s and 80s tbh it was still recovering from South Wales' industrial past and was pretty crap.
I wish I could get the fishing bug again.
I've been a few times but just to help my dad he's 82 and needs a lot of help now.

Everything in there now mate , roach , chub , dace , barbel , loads of perch , pike , bream , rudd and of course trout and eels

The area around the old Wigginton teape paper mill is supposed to be good and huge pike down by the flyover at the bottom of penarth Road
