A Ninian Park Memory from 1970

It was a midweek night game at NP from Feb - Mar 1970 and I can remember coming through the turnstiles at the Grange End with the floodlights on, misty playing surface looking across to the Bob Bank and this song being distorted through the PA system of Radio Ninian https://open.spotify.com/track/4o7pd...Qdek8cenU5JPlw

    or another link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daxiMb0rITA

Can't remember the match but the song always brings back memories of NP. over 50 years ago.

I can almost taste the Oxo and feel the uneven sleepers going up the Grangetown End as I listen to it.

My dad started taking me down to Ninian Park after 1970 World Cup when I was 8 years old. I somehow remember Elvis Presley “Wonder of You” and Freda Payne “Band of Gold” playing and radio Ninian in the corner of grange and grandstand.I know we sat in Canton Stand near the Bob Bank on the benches

A couple of years later, I know we were in the Bob bank and being passed over head to sit on the wall at the front for Leeds in FACup.

‘The Wonder Of You’ was given a brilliant rendition by us at Filbert St, first game of the season I think about 1971, better than Elvis, it was

Bit later this one, and possibly relative to our ages TBiB, but this one for me evokes memories of the Bob Bank.
A hit in '76 but It could well have been 1980 such was the money being spent on the fan experience back in those days...

A bit more up to date, but when I hear simply the best by Tina Turner it reminds me of the teams coming out of the tunnel during the Eddie May era

For some reason I remember Chanson D'amour by Manhatton transfer belting out around 1977-78 as the whole of the Bob bank ran towards the back to see the Wolves special pulling in to Ninian halt
Funny how certain songs stick in your mind???

This comment just conjures up an image in my head of the City fans chanting “ you’re gonna get your f***ing heads kicked in “ at the train ...

Love the song but my favourite version is by Southside Johnny. Fell in love with this when they performed at the Tramshed last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saWaoGFfCAM

Just played them both. It’s the Four Tops version for me, absolute classic

Hey, ta for posting. I'd not heard it before. They do a really good take on it.

Here's a live version for you:

Two of the earliest versions of the song from 1966 and 1967:

Thanks for those Steve, it really is a marvellous song, as I say it’s The Four Tops for me. Listening to it just now, took me and the missus back to our schooldays together, some songs pinpoint times in your life and this is certainly one of them.
