    Giorgio Chinaglia

Played for Cardiff schools and ended up at New York cosmos with Pele.

Whatever happened to the sell-on clause?

His parents ran a cafe in town.

His book is well worth a read even if he did play for the JBs: Arrivederci Swansea: The Giorgio Chinaglia Story.

He always struck me as a player who absolutely maximised his potential (I vaguely remember him as a big bustling centre forward playing for Italy) and ended up having a very successful career.

But was only 65 when he died :-(

(and also Jimmy Hill, along with the other pundits, REALLY struggling with his surname!)

His book is a great read, and it finally cleared up an old memory of mine.
When I was young (maybe 13 or 14, not sure) I remember being taken to a restaurant in Cardiff, for a friend's birthday meal. It was an Italian (I had bolognese), upstairs in some back street, and I clearly remember the walls (and ceiling) being lined with bamboo cane. But for many years afterwards, I couldn't find anyone who knew where this place was (I knew it was somewhere in the streets between Guildford Crescent and the prison - now long demolished). Then, when I read Chinaglia's book, I realised that this was the same place - his parent's restaurant. Sure, it's no big deal, but it was good to have my memories confirmed.
