I'd say the house was built pre-1900 by the design, but the photo looks like it would have been taken around 1910 ish

There are weeds appearing in the garden wall. They would have taken a while to establish through the brickwork.

Housing was nearly always built to accommodate workers of nearby industry, with slighter bigger and better designed houses going to managers.

Barry docks was built in the 1880s, so I'd be very confident in saying this house would have been build around that time.
I’ve worked out that the baby in the photo is my uncle - born in 1911 so Mr Oddie was very accurate! The lady in the photo is I think my Great Grand Mother - Mary Williams 1952-1922 - although she looks older but I guess that was the times

the building act changed in 1894 which allowed buildings to have bay windows apparently, and the street was definitely there in the 1901 census.

Yup, you're probably right on that one.

Jack Ready (you could never forget him Tony, just like Carry On’s Kenneth Williams) told us that although they were removed they were never used, not practical apparently. The Rover Way lads will remove them free of charge nowadays.

Did you mean to say 1852 instead?

Assuming that we think that the photo was taken in 1912 (a year after the baby was born), Mary if it is her, would have been 60 and I don't think the lady looks 60, although admittedly it is difficult to see.

More likely to be your grandmother perhaps?

Making another assumption for assumption sakes, but I think the photo was taken on a summer's day around noon. Reason being is because Regent Street is south-west facing, so the shadows coincide with it being at around that time of day.

Why I think it would be summer is because the foliage at the front of the house is in full growth and also, the lady and her neighbour are quite happy to stand in their open doorways which I doubt very much they would have done in the colder months as they wouldn't want to let the heat out.
