Very sad, i used to swim in there as a kid, used to jump off the black pipe. Two of my mates drowned in there.

Odd. The one thing a working kitchen will have is a good number of extinguishers, fire blankets, half-hour doors etc. which would have been employed immediately after the 1st sign of fire. Can only presume it was something outside the main restaurant/kitchen area,

did you see the investigation that guy did a few years ago who thought it could have been an arson. seemed pretty convincing, but nobody seemed interested in following it up

It was good and it was convincing, but I think the chairman he was accusing had already died. He'd (the author) been at the fire when he was about 7, if I remember rightly

Yes the Bradford fire was a wooden stand with years of rubbish gathered underneath and people smoking above. This was a restaurant with probably 20 staff walking about with no doubt many fire extinguishers or blankets to hand.....oh look there’s a fire starting.....let’s just watch it get bigger hey

My thoughts exactly, I get it when something happens in middle of night like miller and carter, albeit a bit iffy.

The fire service advice for any fire, unless it’s the size,of a domestic bin, is get out stay out. Don’t forget, those working in the kitchen, if that’s where it started, won’t have the PPE to protect themselves especially if it’s in the cooking range.

surprised the kitchen area didnt have a automatic fire suppressant system

I'm not for a minute suggesting that there's anything untoward about this incident, but I'm willing to bet that we'll see a few more business fires, in the coming months...

"Get out, stay out, get the brigade out" as Fireman Sam used to say.

The fire looked like it was coming from the top floor, not the kitchen

Anyone who stays to fight a fire is an idiot. Fire blankets etc are there for little things and to tick HSE boxes. If you use a fire blanket use it to wrap around yourself or a vulnerable person while you are legging it.
