In my opinion , considering the size of industrial south wales ......newport , cardiff , swansea , Barry, neath , port Talbot, bridgend , ponty , merthyr and the valleys its been a bit of a let down

Some good bands and artists of course but its an area with a rich history but compared to greater Manchester or Merseyside very few influential bands have come from here

I am not a fan of stereophonics myself or the manics but there must be talented bands from all genres out there

Manchester. You’ve gotta have The Fall. So good and influential. Joy division. Underrated - 10cc, some brilliant work by them.

Jeez Zipper takes me back to '79 and gigs down the Lions Den. Remember going into Spillers and buying their 7" single "Life of Riley". They were a good band, but not as good as The Frames, probably the best local band around from '77-'79

The Ramones, The New York Dolls, Television, Public Enemy, The Velvet Underground, Wu Tang, Talking Heads, Run DMC, Biggie, LL Cool J, etc etc. There are more world-class hip hop artists from New York than all Manchester bands put together.

South East Wales - Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics, Catatonia, Feeder, Super Furry Animals, Budgie, Bullet for my Valentine, Funeral for a Friend, Lostprophets, Los Campesinos, Pretty Vicious would have been huge were it not for very sad and tragic circumstances. Not to mention the numerous excellent solo singers and Welsh language artists. Boy Azooga and Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard are two very good Cardiff bands who are going places.

Greater Manchester is also a fair bit bigger than South East Wales, the Cardiff Newport met area (Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend, Merthyr, Caerphilly, Pontypridd, Ebbw Vale) is home to 1m, Greater Manchester almost 3m
