Another band from the area who were vastly underated was Sassafras. An album of theirs, Expecting Company is exceptional, they were superb live and Dai Shell was a cracking guitarist. Much better than Man in my opinion.
Talking of Budgie, I was checking out some guitars in Gamlin's many years ago, when a truck with the Budgie logo pulled up outside the shop. I couldn't believe my eyes when the band jumped out and came into Gamlin's to do a bit of shopping themselves.
Cardiff post-punk band Young Marble Giants released the album Colossal Youth in 1980 which was well received by the music press. Kurt Cobain said in a Melody Maker interview that Colossal Youth was one of the five most influential records he had ever heard.
