It does feel very different to cardiff though, it’s not really cosmopolitan is it, it feels more valleys like which considering the 2 mile gap is incredible.
Is that all that separates the north of Cardiff from Caerphilly, two miles?
I wonder what the distance between St Mellons and Ely is, for example?
I used to work in Cardiff with quite a number of Caerphilly guys, their accent was noticeably different.

I'd be surprised if it was that much tbh from the edge of thornhill or rhiwbina to the edge of caerphilly

Depends on where you count the end of Cardiff from really. Not much more than a good stones throw from the Travellers Rest to Caerphilly Mountain Burger Shack.

Think it’s about 12 miles from culver house to st mellons, less than 2 from rhiwbina to caerphilly. Different worlds. Crazy

I wonder if places like Caerphilly and penarth and Marshfield will eventually be swallowed up into Cardiff proper. like llanishen and lisvane once were

I think Caerphilly has better access routes north west and east and you drop quickly into north Cardiff

Like Radyr and rhiwbina also, pentyrch and creigiau next. Think penarth is really just another suburb, apart from the river there is no gap between the city and the town

Easier access to the airport and a few different routes into Cardiff. Avoiding the dreaded A470

    Re: Caerphilly

It must be pointed out though that Caerphilly is also a county in its own right as well as a town.I don't think theres any danger of it becoming a Cardiff suburb any time soon.

Pentyrch and Creigiau already claim to be part of Cardiff, Likewise Gwaelod y Garth, while taff's well just over the river is in Rhondda Cynon taff.

I agree on Penarth, it's basically part of cardiff already - and a very nice part too.

    Counties can also be changed.

I never thought caerphilly county made much sense - I doubt people living in Rhymney have anything at all to do with Caerphilly, whereas the next towns east or west on the heads of the valleys from rhymney are both in different counties

Problem is we’re not building the infrastructure for cars. I hope that the Metro really does work but I’ve not seen much about it

Has anyone else heard rumours that the borough is due to be locked down tomorrow? Might be nonsense but wouldn’t surprise me as I know more people who have tested positive recently compared to any other time since March.

Was able to visit my mother who had been moved to a care home from hospital for the first time in 6 months last week after the home started allowing visits. My brother was due to go this week but the home cancelled due to the increased incidence in Caerphilly Borough in that week so there is something going on

There were 4 hour queues for the testing centre yesterday due to a large increase in numbers. Nursing homes no longer allowing visitors.

Penarth is, to all intents and purposes, a Cardiff suburb.

Higher cases in 18 to 30 year folk ,who are now out and about more ,along with much more testing will result in the increase in cases, I'm guessing this is all down to behavior and care when out and about ,when shopping now or in town very few are wearing masks , find it strange with the caution of the Welsh Gov we don't seem to have pushed masks use more , and introduced a tough testing arrangement at Cardiff Airport for arrivals and departures , doesn't the Welsh Government own the airport .??

    It's almost self fulfilling.

There is definitely a spike which is causing more people to get tested, which is going to raise numbers above the threshold.

I think a local lockdown is somewhat certain soon.

Caerphilly Borough also has the highest STD rate in Wales, no surprise that Covid cases are rising...

I’m not surprised with this at all. I’ve regularly been the only one wearing a mask when I’ve been out. Hopefully people start to wise up now.

They reckon that the rise is attributed to people 'socialising at home together' It's a friendly Borough, make no mistake.
