at least someone at the club now is thinking about the future.

we had semi ajayi before who was developing into a good player at this level, but we got rid when he was like 23? would be worth a few quid if we shill had him here now.

I don't think Ajayi or Lockyer in particular were ever getting into the side though and weren't better than what we had in the position at the time.

Both have improved a lot because they moved away and got experience. Lockyer was still relegated with Charlton and is now ith Luton.

Ajayi would be around the 1st team if he had progressed as he has elsewhere with us, but he probably wouldn't have. He needed that time with Rotherham to become the player he has where he played about three times as many games compared to the 3 loan spells he had away whilst with us.

The club will get a few wrong, the vast majority who we let go were the right decision, just no one mentions them.

ajayi was getting there, but we went for a short term gain over long term sustainability

Says nothing for our own Academy when we have to sign youngsters rejected by other clubs. We might as well get rid of the Academy as all it seems to do is breed players only good enough for lower and non league football. Nonetheless some young blood is very welcome.

I totally agree. Players need to play competitive games and learn from senior pros to improve.

Lockyer has been a professional footballer for 7 seasons. 6 of those were in League One or below and the other was for a club that got relegated from the Championship. Our worst league finish in that time was 12th in the Championship and we've had 2 seasons in the Premier League. He isn't good enough for us.

Semi Ajayi on the other hand will be playing premier league football next season, and is still only 26, so probably has his peak years ahead of him still.

Ajayi is the one player that we've released in recent times who has gone on to better things. However, as Trigger posted above, you have to question how he would have developed if he had stayed here.

This looks to be a strange one. Not good enough for Blackburn but good enough for us. Very odd.
